Gaming Gran Turismo 6 - Apollo LRV

Gran Turismo are really showing their affection for all things automotive by putting the only ever car to be driven off-world in the latest version. The sad thing is, the majority of gamers are saying things like ''why bother with a stupid moon buggy when we could have more variants of Nissan...

    Discussion Spaceflight Video Thread

I need some help. Does anyone know where I could watch this film? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTFMr_OAR-A Out of the Present - a documentary based Sergei Krikalev on his mission to Mir as the USSR breaks up. It looks really cool. And the fact that the footage is real makes it very cool/

    Meteors over England!

This was very visible from Glasgow (a pretty big and bright city), so I'm gutted I didn't see it. Also, just for the sake of being pedantic.. England does not equal Britain, this was mostly visible over Scotland and Northern Ireland, many people phoned the emergency services up here! the...

Which is more effective, disposable capsules or reusable spaceplanes?

It all depends on what you want to do though. Space Planes can be very useful in carrying and retrieving large payloads (as the Shuttle demonstrated) from LEO, while capsules are the simplest and safest method of returning people from high velocities from further afield. It's like an 18...

    Updates Boeing's CST-100 Starliner

Isn't it ironic that many people believe that nobody does spaceflight anymore, yet there is so much going on right now?! It's exciting times! Give us 20 years, and we will certainly have systems in place that are visually more ''futuristic''. Just look at some of the concepts for the DSH...

News NASA's Future: The News and Updates Thread

The stuff on NSF about the BEO vehicle concepts really did get me quite excited. Now, possibly a silly question here, but, the DSH would be parked in an L-point, and picked up by the crew. Would they enter directly back to Earth, or park back in the L-point? If they are going for direct...

    Updates JAXA's Independent Manned Spaceflight

Ah, I forgot about this particular concept. The capsule would launch atop the orbital module, to make launch abort easier, then when in orbit, the capsule would do a CSM/LEM docking type maneuver, except with a guiding rail.

    Dan Wheldon, RIP

Will Power has been released from hospital (He was the second car to be launched high into the air after Dan) and Pippa Mann and JR Hildebrand are being kept overnight. This disaster could have easily taken other lives too.

    Dan Wheldon, RIP

Everything that could have went wrong did go wrong at Las Vegas today at the final race of this years Indycar Series season. A fifteen car disaster resulted in the loss of life of two time Indy 500 winner, and 2005 Indycar Series champion, Dan Wheldon. I watched the whole thing unwind on live...

    Question General Spaceflight Q&A

All the Orbiters had different weights. Columbia was by far the heaviest, she was used mainly for science missions with a pressurised Hab module in the payload bay. All the Orbiters have small differences to each other. I believe either Endeavour or Atlantis (i'm not too sure) was not fitted...
