It seems a machine to play Mechwarrior 4.
I wonder if we will ever see something for Orbiter some day...

Hm. Any more details, what this picture is about, where it is from, and what is it in it that Orbiter lacks?

These machines don't run Mechwarrior 4, but AFAIK, custom software. There are a few of such special centers in the USA and japan, which survived even the decline of BattleTech in the last years.

Yes, they are multiplayer arcade games in which you play through a network. I remember reading about them back when BattleTech was at its peak, but never saw one in person.

Speaking of B-Tech, Urwumpe, I haven't forgotten about our old project thread. Someday, I hope...

The closest most home gamers got was Steel Battalion for the Xbox, the game in which the controller was absolutely beastly. joysticks, 3 foot pedals, 40 or so buttons.

Protocol was key, most actions had a sequence of button presses that if not done properly wouldn't activate. Even ejection sequences. Wild stuff. The game was also pretty hardcore, if you didn't eject when you needed to, it deleted your save data! You'd have to start over.

Wish I'd gotten a chance to play it, but the initial run was something like 2000 copies worldwide, and at a cost of $200, not really an easy buy.

I wonder if you could mod that controller to be orbiter applicable...It'd take some serious coding...not to mention adjusting the output.

whoa... I've heard of realism but this is a whole new level! Pity about the price though... I would really like to buy a copy one day

A quick glance at eBay suggests you could pick up the game and controller for $70 or so (Minus S&H, which seems to be around $14.) And the original Xbox is probably something like $50 at a GameStop, so the whole shebang could be picked up for $135, give or take. Not bad. Well worth the $85 total or so if you can get it for that.'

I remember reading about it and wanting it pretty bad.

Where are the MFDs?
I think that such a display like the Battletech one would require MFDs to display in different monitors. I wonder if that could be possible some day using commercial hardware and orbiter support...

For that particular game the screen was your HUD and MFD.

Indeed it is already possible, as proven by various simpit building threads.

Not related to Orbiter, SADLY. But the highest level of realism and complexity actually comes from the Microsoft Flight Simulator communities at the moment.

If you have enough time, money, knowledge of programming and electrical engineering and a free room available, you might get a working Boeing 737NG flightdeck at home in conjunction with MS Flight Simulator:

It's an expensive hobby. But it's amazing. Imagine a complete working Space Shuttle flight deck in conjunction with Orbiter. The only thing which would bother me is the missing weightlessness at home...

Also home made by using a real old 737 head:

Those altitude call outs sound suspiciouslly like the ones in OrbiterSound...

No accident because it's just the original Boeing GPWS callouts (but old version) OrbiterSound uses. I think that the sound files in OrbiterSound have been taken from an MS FS addon (Dreamfleet Boeing 737-400, which was the first simulation software offering original Boeing GPWS sounds in 2001 before OrbiterSound existed). I think that also the cabin ambience sounds of OrbiterSound have been taken from MS FS partly. I noticed that already when I was testing some FS default aircraft a few years ago.
