A confused looking person placed a large hardshell travel case right below a TV camera right in front of the Brandenburg Gate a few minutes ago, with the police deciding to demolish the possible bomb.

According to a n-tv moderator preparing for his report, the guy came with a bike, did a huge turn around the Pariser Platz (Paris Square) and then dropped the travel case in front of the camera. When being told to bring the case to the security which is easily visible, the guy only muttered "I must go away" and escaped. Could still be just a harmless lunatic and lot's of dirty laundry.

The problem is, that the "Fan mile" is right in the center of the government quarter of Berlin, and it is hard to find a safe place to trigger an explosion.

Today is the semifinal Germany-Turkey shown at the Brandenburg Gate, with many thousand people expected. So, it is not unexpected that police reacts a bit more nervous as normal. Well, if it is really a bomb, I will know. My girlfriend works 500m away from the location in the Bundestag administration and will sure tell me when something explodes close to her.

:dry:

And if something explodes a little earlier than anticipated... she might not be able to.

As long as she does her job, she will be able... :lol: ... her bureau is in the opposite direction of the Pariser Platz, between Bundeskanzleramt and Reichstag. I don't be worried about her getting harmed by this, I am more worried about what if this is just a decoy or something bigger planned today.

Also, remember always the slogan on the T-Shirt of the bomb disarm team: If you see me running, run faster!

I have a "If you see me running, keep up!" shirt. But then again, I am only EOR...

Earth Orbit Rendezvous? :lol::P

This is spaceflight forum, don't use such reserved TLAs!

You are right...
EOR = Explosive Ordenance Reconaissance

Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance. Or, for the kids around here: The guy who can walk so carefully over hostile territory, that he can sneak at home into his bed after a drunken night without his angry wife noticing it.

congrats to Germany for making the semi-finals.

congrats to Germany for making the semi-finals.

Of course, also congrats to Turkey, Spain and Russia. Will become a very interesting final round this time. :cheers:

But the true winners of the tournament are already the Austrians and Swiss - while their teams mostly presented themselves as tragic heroes, their fans had become European champions in Fandom - They celebrated every team, so you suddenly had a Swiss guy in the most excessive orange costume, getting interviewed.

And for a European championship, the tournament is extremely peaceful... :)

while their teams mostly presented themselves as tragic heroes,

Well, maybe you know the inoficial slogan the Austrians issued (even before the start): "Euro 08 - visiting loosers!" :lol: (Zu Gast bei verlierern)

This may be due to the lack of fat, drunk and/or bald people running around with their man-breasts hanging out shouting "in-ger-lund..in-ger-lund" :cheers:

Never terribly sure what happens to the English at football matches, most of the well behaved fans seem to be happy to stay at home and watch in the pub.

Still, even though Sweden were terrible this has still been one of the more entertaining EMs that I've seen, today's match should be superb.

Let's hope for a Russia-German final, Podolski versus Arshavin!

Yeah, I am sure the T-Shirts with the slogan will become pretty wanted in some years. :lol:

I don't think EM would work in English would it? Direct translation would be EC=European Championship?
