UK hands sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius

In a historic move, the UK gives up sovereignty of a strategic group of islands in the Indian Ocean.

This has been rumbling on here since the UK forcibly removed the Chagosians in the 1960's to build the port and airbase.

Some strange reactions in the press here. Another bit of Empire gone. The usual from the usual suspects.. As I read it UK/US have a 99 year lease on the port and airbase.

Still some bits of Empire left:
"The remaining British overseas territories are: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands. There are also two sovereign base areas on Cyprus under British jurisdiction."
