Launch News Final Ariane 5 launch - VA261 - Heinrich-Hertz-Satellit & SYRACUSE 4B

A nice way to end the program, its also the first launch of a German payload on an Ariane 5. In the past, our national payloads (without ESA involvement) had been launched by Space Shuttle, Titan III or Soyuz.

Less than 20 minutes to launch, webcast underway.

10 minutes, green board!

2 minutes to go!

Ignition and liftoff!

EAP separation!

Payload fairing separation!

The "X" in the trajactory plot is a bit behind the "O", but the lines are matching.

EPC shutdown and separation, ESC ignition!

ESC shutdown! Sat separations next.

And this was the Ariane 5 in Germans childrens TV. (Yes, we teach our children how to do controlled explosions by mixing two gases. What could go wrong?)

Some bit of Ariane 5 nostalgia until Ariane 6 steps out of the cradle:

(I think it fits better in this thread than the ESA news thread)
