Hello guys im from china, who is recently interested in this game. But i dont have a good command of operating earth-moon transfering,so is there who can help me?just send me private letters is ok thxxxx!!!

Well my friend,as you know china's network is blocked by the fxxking communist party,so im not accessible to some of the tutorial videos you provide for me,so just words tutorial is ok.By the way,can you teach me how to drive the delta glider iv which is a popular add_on plane?thx so much!

about delta glider iv

do u know how to drive it?thxxx!!!

If you have the DG-IV, there is some pretty good autopilots that are built-it. These are in the documentation.
I've not messed around with the DG-IV for a long while, but it is really easy to program. It'll take you from the runway to orbit. Or from a parking lot, lifting off with hover engines to forward flight to orbit. It's all in the documentation.

Welcome :welcome: to the forums!!

thxxx my friends.i will check the documentation as soon as possible【maybe english document is a bit tough for me as a chinese boy】.By the way,do you know how to use IMFD to travel through planets?i did meet difficulties in doing this.

That's why I should not post before the morning coffee...Sorry fwd0502.
Do you have Orbiter 2010 or 2016?

---------- Post added at 11:42 ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 ----------

I guess for the same reason you can't download other ships either.
But before anything else, can you reach a stable Earth orbit with the default Orbiter's DeltaGlider?

Well, considering their erratic behavior, I would never say anything bad about the communist party. Its not nice to talk bad about the old and demented. :tiphat:;)

Anyway, it might be easier to help if you could tell what works. Can you read the forum articles? Can you for example also read this general resource about the dry theory behind spaceflight?

Hello Germany friend! As for me i can understand most of the articles'meanings since im a senior 3 student. And maybe im eager to know how to land on the earth base such as kenedy spaceport safely from the orbit.i'd appreciate that if you could teach me step by step so that i can understand the whole process better!

sure i got the orbiter 2010 edition

I suggest you download (if possible) InterplanetaryMFD Version 5.7 (the second download on this page, not the LunarTransferMFD)
http://users.kymp.net/p501474a/Orbiter/Orbiter.html

There is a manual included, but it will take some time to figure things out.

When you have done so, I think many of us can guide you through the proces. Just do it step by step. A low earth orbit would be a good starting point.

Edit: Version 5.7 is for Orbiter 2016. For 2010, you need 4.2.2

THX buddy i've already got this add on,but i dont know how to use it do inplanetary tavel,so i use the rwarp1.5 addon in:rofl:stead

Well, learning IMFD is certainly worth the effort. It's actually quite easy once you get the feel for it. Let's try to get you on a transfer to the moon. We should use the same scenario as a starting point. Suggestions? I'll have a look at the default scenario's to see which one can be used as a starting point for a transfer to the moon.

i think the dg mk4 in orbit scenario is fit for training imdf

I was looking at that one as well. I didn't find a nice solution in less than a minute, but let's take this scenario to set up a transfer to the moon.

---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:04 PM ----------

IMFD offers various programs. It's key to learn which program you need in which situation. Sometimes, more than one program can be used, each with advantages and disadvantages.

Before we start, find your IMDF config file in \Config and set DateFormat to 0.

Then launch IMDF in the left MFD. You see a boot screen. Hit the following buttons:
MNU=>Course=>SET (to set the Target Intercept program).

Basically, this already gives you a solution. But the first solution is usually pretty bad. Dv is 12.31k. That is way too much. We should find a solution where dV is more like 4k. TIn (seconds to intercept should be slightly lower as well for a tyical 4 day trip.

Tweak TEj and TIn until you find an acceptable solution. Give it a try and report what you could find. I'll do the same in the meantime.

Actually, this scenario is horrible. The inclination is way too much and there is not enough fuel to quickfix that.

I'll look for another one or set something up myself and post it here.

---------- Post added at 06:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ----------

None of the default DG4 scenario's is ideal for a transfer to the moon. So I made two changes to the 'DG Mk4 in orbit' scenario.

I changed the inclination so the relative inclination with the moon is now only 10 degrees. And the fuel tank is completely filled up, which means the DG4 has 30km/s delta-v (at the default ISP=2 setting). Note that is an insane amount for learning purposes only. Most other ships do have a lot less fuel.

Now try to find the lowest dV value with the IMFD Course program by tweaking eject and arrival dates and let us know what you found.

For IMFD, if you can access youtube, look for David Courtney's excellent series of tutorials. He has also published an excellent series of beginner tutorials.

- i dont have a good command of operating earth-moon transfering,so is there who can help me
- can you teach me how to drive the delta glider iv
- do you know how to use IMFD to travel through planets
- im eager to know how to land on the earth base such as kenedy spaceport safely from the orbit

So many different complex requests in one single thread will likely make it a mess.
Why don't you open a separate one for each single question you have? So it will be easier to keep our answers clean and easily readable.

Thanks.

it never occurs to me that this game is so popular among foriegn players.in china only a few people is interested in this game, and we dont have a forum like you do,this is why chinese rookie can get instant help and clear tutorials.

Hi Shanghai friend!

I recommend you find and download the XR-2 asnmd XR-5 spacecraft, as these have really nice autopilots for attitude control, and also nice flightdeck controls. Then, download my Glideslope 2 MFD from OrbitHangar, and have a look at the tutorial in there.

It's a shame that you cannot see the YouTube videos. David Courtney's series is truly an amazing piece of work, and takes you from the simplest of first steps to the most complex of interplanetary maneuvers.

By the way - practice takeoff and landing from Brighton Beach *before* you try landing on Earth. Even though you may think that the atmosphere would help, it actually brings a whole other set of problems that you can ignore if you are landing in a vacuum. If I remember (it's been 10 years), the Go Play In Space tutorial doc also says the same thing.
