Thanks to Stack Editor, I have managed to create something that seems to be behaving sensibly.
Space Research Vessel Michael E. Brown
Despite its namesake, it is a low-to-medium range and endurance spacecraft.
Design Overview:
~14 km/s delta-V for whatever you can do with it:
-Well-planned round trips to Mars/Venus orbit
-Near Earth asteroids
-Asteroid belt?
-Perhaps one-way to Jupiter with refueling for return
~6.5 years of supplies for a crew of 4
Features:
-Uses nuclear thermal rocket with LH2 fuel
-RCS placed on extensions for extra torque
-Nuclear generator instead of solar panels to allow deep space missions
-Extra coolant pumps for responsive thermal management
-Thermal management system tested from Earth to Mars
-Three docking ports for landers, extra laboratory modules, resupply craft, etc.
Design Issues:
-100kW generator is probably a bit too powerful/heavy for this design. (I liked the aesthetics of the truss)
-RCS fuel a bit limited, and the spacecraft is a bit ponderous.
-Underpowered (acceleration around 0.1G)
Flight Notes:
-Try to use small manual bursts of RCS and avoid autopilots for large attitude changes
-Large burn escapes need to be broken into multiple smaller burns Phobos Grunt style
-Need to plan captures well in advance. I recommend IMFD Delta Velocity tool.
-2 low temperature radiators in the front and 2 high temperature radiators in the back. Recommended cooling loops:
1) Command module and habitat module to low temp radiator #1
2) All other room temperature modules to low temp radiator #2
3) Power generator to high temp radiator #1
4) Nuclear thermal engine to high temp radiator #2
-Radiators are all in the same direction. Keep the sun off of your lateral sides.
-External storage modules often require heating

Despite its namesake, it is a low-to-medium range and endurance spacecraft.
Design Overview:
~14 km/s delta-V for whatever you can do with it:
-Well-planned round trips to Mars/Venus orbit
-Near Earth asteroids
-Asteroid belt?
-Perhaps one-way to Jupiter with refueling for return
~6.5 years of supplies for a crew of 4
Features:
-Uses nuclear thermal rocket with LH2 fuel
-RCS placed on extensions for extra torque
-Nuclear generator instead of solar panels to allow deep space missions
-Extra coolant pumps for responsive thermal management
-Thermal management system tested from Earth to Mars
-Three docking ports for landers, extra laboratory modules, resupply craft, etc.
Design Issues:
-100kW generator is probably a bit too powerful/heavy for this design. (I liked the aesthetics of the truss)
-RCS fuel a bit limited, and the spacecraft is a bit ponderous.
-Underpowered (acceleration around 0.1G)
Flight Notes:
-Try to use small manual bursts of RCS and avoid autopilots for large attitude changes
-Large burn escapes need to be broken into multiple smaller burns Phobos Grunt style
-Need to plan captures well in advance. I recommend IMFD Delta Velocity tool.
-2 low temperature radiators in the front and 2 high temperature radiators in the back. Recommended cooling loops:
1) Command module and habitat module to low temp radiator #1
2) All other room temperature modules to low temp radiator #2
3) Power generator to high temp radiator #1
4) Nuclear thermal engine to high temp radiator #2
-Radiators are all in the same direction. Keep the sun off of your lateral sides.
-External storage modules often require heating
