Question XR1 and XR2 docking collars

So I was trying to do a ship to ship docking with an XR1 and a XR2 and it seems I could not do this. Is this a docking collar issue, a bug, or a setting that I missed?

There shouldn't be any reason why they wouldn't dock to each other. Can you post your scenario?
 
A screenshot of the two ships together would help as well.

Was this on the ground or in space?
 
I've made a test scenario to be a normal, hopefully functional control. Try it out by copying the text in the code box below into Notepad, then saving it as "XR2 and XR1 dock test.scn" and loading it up in Orbiter.

XR2 in lunar orbit and low on fuel.
XR1 Landed and Brighten Beach.

XR1 Must launch and tank the XR2 in orbit so it can land.

I fooled around bumping nose's with both ship and could not get a dock. Docking ports on both were open and I had good approaches to dock.

In the end I had to force a dock with scenario editor.

I've had engineering training...so...

First rule of trouble shooting "is it turned on?"


Jk i saw your APU status was "0" in your current state file.
 
You do not need the APU on to dock in the XR2, trust me on that. You need the APU on to open the nose cone to expose the docking port, but the APU does not need to be on beyond that.
 
You did have DockMFD up? I hate to ask the obvious, but I though for a moment you might be trying to "eyeball it" instead of using the MFD. I know that's how I used to try it years ago. (I'm actually pretty good at it now, depending on what I'm approaching; but I've had a lot of practice)
 
PhantomCruiser got a good point there, I suspect that you might be a tad off on your alignment, and if that is not the reason....I am not sure then what is going on.
 
well i'll be darned. I guess I always have the apu running, and I could have sworn there was some ship that wouldn't dock unless the apu was on, or the dock was activated... or something. anyways--

I'm even more confused about your question now, because when I copy and pasted your scn into my orbiter, and started it up... the ships ARE docked together. :idk:

I posted that scenario to demonstrate that the XR1 and XR2 can indeed dock together. I didn't imagine I would end up confusing someone by posting it as an example- sorry for that:facepalm:
