Hmm...I just pruned my big silk tree in the back yard, and now my neighbor is following suit.

He's got about a six pack of beer in him, he's standing on the top of the cab of his pick-up truck (because he doesn't have a ladder), and he's trying to cut a 8-inch thick dead branch off his oak tree with a dull-as-hell chainsaw. He's been at it for about 20 minutes, the blade is smoking, and he's only about 1/3rd of the way through the branch. He just stopped to put more gas into it.

I wonder how long it will take him to realize that he's cutting off about 500 lbs of tree limb six feet above his shiny truck.

Beats watching the telly.
I assume you have the number of the local hospital ready when the inevitable happens?

Yeah. The guy is going in for hip replacement surgery in a few weeks. I'm thinking that he figures if he breaks a few more bones and other parts that they can fix that in the hospital while they are working on the hip.

If I were a better neighbor and he wasn't such a crotchety prick I'd lend him my ladder and blade sharpener, but I'm not and he isn't.

He's got the chainsaw fired up again! Woo hoo!

That is really dramatic... I hope it is some kind of overly shiny truck, that did not yet see any real dirt?

Isn't there a word for enjoying the potential misfortune of others? Applies to friends as well!.

The German standard term is "Schadenfreude" ... we are masters in it.

It's a new-ish Ford F-150. Nothing fancy but in good shape. He's picking up some scratches and dents today for certain.

He's about half-way through the branch now. This is one part hilarious, one part terrifying, and eight parts depressing. I'm wondering if I should call the ambulance now so they arrive in time.

Sounds like the recipe for an epic Youtube success...

Is it still daylight there, or has he got arc-lighting?

...starting to hear some wood cracking....

His crazy cat lady wife just yelled out the door asking him if it was going to hit the truck. He yelled that it will be fine.

It's 3:45pm here, nice clear sunny day.

Perfect example of the classic plot "Man against nature", almost in row with "Trutz, Blanke Hans"

And it's cut! The end of the branch hit the ground next to the truck, the branch broke and tore a good bit of wood and bark off the entire side of the tree and slammed into the door frame of the cab.

Bullseye

And realization now has set in...he has a 500 pound branch leaning on one side of his cab, so he can't open the driver's side door. The truck was parked next to the tree proper, so he can't get into the passenger side, and there is a strap of bark between the two wrapped over the top of the truck.

He's going to have to drag this branch off his truck somehow. It's not a new and shiny truck anymore. What a mess.

Not evil enough to get video? I don't understand that concept...

Well, too lazy to go rooting through my stuff to find my camera and start filming anyway. I don't have a smartphone. I have an old dumb flip phone and a separate digital camera that I keep in my luggage. Yeah, I'm old fashioned like that.

He's on the phone now, probably with one of his buddies with a truck. There might be an encore performance later this afternoon.
