You can get a full 1.5 GFLOPs system for $50-$100, running at 10-20W each

More precisely, it's ~1.9 GFLOPs, running at 18W full power.

The most curious part is that a Celeron G1610 at 2.6GHz does 1.8 GFLOPs while a Pentium G2030 at 3.0GHz does 1.95 GFLOPs, but the first cost 2.6 times less.
That is, for the same core count there is little difference between the cheapest and the priciest CPUs as far as pure GFLOPs are concerned.

Yeah, but then, I don't need computation power. What I want to set up is a continuous delivery system for doing some experiments at home, that I can't realize at work for the foreseeable future.

My purchase came with a disc and an activation key code. You don't buy the latest versions of Windows directly from Microsoft, you get them from a third-party distributor like an electronics store (real life or online).

On PCPartPicker.com, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit is listed as only being available on OutletPC for 200 USD while Windows 10 and 8.1 are 85 USD. So most of the "big-name" online hardware and software distributors aren't selling 7 anymore except for one with an exorbitant price, at least in the US.

Exactly. Also I am also asking at the local computer stores if any leasing hardware is returning to them. Those are 2+ years old and often pretty worn out outside, but pretty cheap for the hardware. If you need a notebook for university and can't afford much as student, such offers are often unbeatable.

A Blue Angels plane crashed today. No word on injuries. Edit: Unfortunately, the pilot did not survive.

Separately, a Thunderbirds plane crashed at a flyover of the Air Force Academy graduation where Obama was speaking. The pilot ejected uninjured and shook the President's hand. The plane doesn't even look too bad either.

Watts Bar Unit 2 is heat soaking at 1800 RPM. AFAIK no plans to sync to the grid to be full speed-no load, but she's rolling along nicely. Still loads of testing to be done.

Back when I first joined the Orbiter community I never thought I'd get regular updates on a nuclear power plant in Tennessee. Weird how things are connected when you think about it.

My PC is slowly turning into audio production system.

3 separate audio cards already in there: mobo integrated Realtek (mic hooked up for Teamspeak/Skype), Maya44 PCI (for routing 2 physical stereo effect loops, reamping and digital I/O) & Focusrite Scarlet Solo for guitar and condenser mic input, and general output).

And I'm running out of screen space.

How's Reaper like? I tried it but never could get it right, maybe it's my 5+ years using FL that biased me, but I nver could use Reaper out of the limited time I tried it (but Ableton too, to be fair). I also understand our uses are a bit different: yours is geared towards live perf, while I'm using it as a sequencer for "offline" production.

I'm fairly new to Reaper but I like it so far. It's mostly aimed at recording not live performance, but it acts well as VST host and you can jam with it. I love snapping tools. I found it very easy to work with but I have to try Ableton I got with my interface.

Ah I see. But even for recording (which I did almost none of, expect some nifty inter-application recording, especially getting MIDI data out to Chrome and sound back into FL to record web synthesizers through Jack Audio) I find FL Studio to be so simple, literally arm and record, in 3 clicks.

My uncle's band uses Reaper for recording their lives, and that's where I got to play with it quickly, but they didn't have huge amounts of VSTs to play with.
