Well, some isotopes also decay in nanoseconds. :lol: But U-235 decays at 700 million years halflife and U-238 at about 4.5 billion years. U-236 decays in 23 million years and U-234 decays in 25000 years.

U-96 decays in about 5 years.

Thermodynamics and entropy are outrageous. I'll put my signature to a petition for ISO repeal these laws, and also repeal the limit of the speed of light:lol:.

I'm about to have my first PC build very soon - I got an i5-6500 and a R9 380 but I'll return the latter and live with integrated graphics for another month until the RX 480 comes out.

250 students are stranded in their school in Triftern, eastern Bavaria, after flooding disrupted the access roads to their school. The school is on a hill and not affected by the flood itself, but generally, it looks pretty dire in that part of the country right now.

20 students had been surprised by a thunderstorm during a boat tour and stranded on a island near Regen (ironically, "Regen" means rain in German). One girl of them got a shock, another a light case of hypothermia.

The regional administration has declared disaster alert and mobilized all available rescue forces... of which not many are available right now, because the whole southern half of German is hit pretty hard right now.
 
My PC is slowly turning into audio production system.

3 separate audio cards already in there: mobo integrated Realtek (mic hooked up for Teamspeak/Skype), Maya44 PCI (for routing 2 physical stereo effect loops, reamping and digital I/O) & Focusrite Scarlet Solo for guitar and condenser mic input, and general output).

Out of curiousity, why are you aiming for the 6500, when the 6600K is only 'slightly' more expensive, has a higher clock speed, and you can OC it to your hearts content?

This is the build I want to put together here in the coming months, and it's geared towards being able to run DCS with a VR headset, so YMMV. Getting an instance on Amazon or another suitable provider is usually way cheaper, unless you have enough old hardware lying around...

Curiously enough, i was just looking around for the best bang for buck in computer hardware.

Turns out there are plenty of second-hand 2012-2013 Ivy Bridge CPUs and motherboards for them. You can get a full 1.5 GFLOPs system for $50-$100, running at 10-20W each, which is quite a bit cheaper than bigger, more powerful boards and CPUs.

I was going to get an i5-4460 at first because it was the cheapest i5 listed on PCPartPicker, but I saw recommendations for i5-6500 (because it was the newer and better counterpart, "slightly more expensive" than the 4460). And as you've shown, I'd have to get a more expensive motherboard in order to overclock, which I am hesitant to do anyway (for now).

Ebay has various sellers/distributors, not just auctions; in this case one was selling copies of Windows 7 for 47 USD (I got one of the last few copies).

Yeah, but then, I don't need computation power. What I want to set up is a continuous delivery system for doing some experiments at home, that I can't realize at work for the foreseeable future.

Before I let bean counters get into the way for progress, I go rogue.

I have no special secrecy demands there, so hosting it somewhere would be no serious deal. But having the box at home would allow some more flexibility and I could also shut it down when I am at work.

I would just need the case to be significantly smaller than a midi tower case, otherwise the computer department at home goes through an age of inflation.
