So as not to bore everyone to death I have a question that I'm sure must have been asked before (Where can I find my orbiter.log file) but I can't seem to find any related posts.
How can I search for an answer to a question I'm having? If anyone can also answer the question that led to this post, I'd be grateful for that answer as well.
Thanks, Eric

The search tab is the rightmost tab at the top of the webpage. Click to bring up the search page.

orbiter.log is in your main orbiter directory.

Well I tried using that but entering the question didn't get me very far. As to Orbiter.log, can you be more specific?
Love your quote.

Er, you do know what a directory is?

You unzip Orbiter to some folder. I assume that the folder is named Orbiter100830 if you didn't specify otherwise. The orbiter.exe along with a bunch of files are in that folder. The orbiter.log is one of them.

I can't make it too much more specific than that.

So, the problem is that typing "Orbiter.log" into search bar gives too many results, and not as many ones that answer the question.

I'd expected a question like that to be in the FAQ section (middle of the top bar), but it's not there for some reason.

As to "how to find answers" in general - that's a fundamental question of human intelligence. :)
Basically, you combine your known patterns in such a way as to generate an answer.

Simply speaking in the given example:
1. What is orbiter.log? It is a file.
2. How to find a file? Google "How to find a file", or remember seeing a search box in Window's start menu.
3. Use the method from 2.
4. Based on location of the file found in 3, deduce the default location for it, i.e. Orbiter installation directory/folder.

Similarly, you can go about answering other questions (or doing anything at all).

To be fair, google usually provides more practical results than the forum search. I search for most OF-topics with google these days... :P

I'm not sure why you feel it necessary to insult my intelligence. I'm not stupid, I'm just not very computer literate.
I'm sure I have skills that you do not. That does not make you stupid, it makes you different.

You know that this isn't about computers, but about finding answers?

And you already got the most specific answer to your question by boogabooga - more specific is not possible than telling you, in which folder the file is.

Sorry, i didn't mean "intelligence" as in "smart-stupid", but as a property of a human - the question the way you phrased it sounded philosophical, so i gave a philosophical answer as well.
