Its a bit different here compared to the USA. In the USA, you hopefully study something properly and then certify for becoming teacher. In Germany, you start directly as teacher for something and then try to fit as much of that something into your education, while also learning every theory about teaching except what teaching really is like. Most aspiring teachers here fail after their first exams, after many years of education, when they finally meet students and discover that they are not prepared for real children.

You can imagine what kind of personality is needed to go through this insanity without losing your sanity. :lol:

This is definitely a Soyuz and not a Proton; more precisely this is a Soyuz rocket using the short "S fairing" used for the first few Starsem launches from pad 31/6 in the early 2000s. (notable ones include ESA's Cluster II, Mars Express/Beagle 2 and Venus Express) However there are no such launches in March 2004 (or in 2004 at all) so you might need to ask your uncle for the date again.

Funny how you can adapt to having low FPS on some games. TES Oblivion runs smooth, but according to a friend , it still lags. Last week, I modded Skyrim to run better on my rig (lower textures, modifying the config files for absolutely minimum specs etc) and it works well. I mean, the FPS is still quite low, but it's definitely playable. In close quarters and with multiple foes, it can get almost turn-based, if you know what I mean, but otherwise it's fine.

After a few plays, it seemed to get even better. But I can't figure out if it's just me adapting to the low FPS, or the game actually optimized itself after the first few runs :lol:

Edit: I'm sort of starting to look at consoles as viable replacements for a gaming PC. As far as I've heard, the graphics quality is a bit lower than on the PC versions, but I guess they're getting better . But adapting to the console controllers would be a hard one, after playing on mouse & keyboard for all my life. I bet there are "mods" to use keyboard&mouse on a console.

The famous Friesenbrücke is a complete loss, after the freighter Emsmoon collided with the bridge yesterday evening. It was the longest steel draw bridge in Germany and a pretty recognizable landmark on the Ems river.

It was also special because some rivets in its construction had been replaced by bolts, for making it easier to remove the complete middle section of the bridge for letting large cruise ships pass from the Meyer Werft in Papenburg to the North Sea.
