orbiting the earth in Orbiter (original texture for the Earth), appears near Lake Chad, a white spot on the surface, coordinates 10.110838,19.429092 What's this? I think it's the Lake Iro (Iro-It Czad or Chad Tchad) Why that looks so white)

Must be lake Iro according to Google Maps.

From a different angle/different time of day it would probably look different due to the lighting angle.

And it'll be interesting to see if a different set of Earth textures changes it. There just so happen to be a new set posted...

Might be time for some on orbit photography.

Looks as though Urwumpe is correct. Strangely, it shows white on Google maps where as other lakes don,t. General photos of the lake look normal.
Interesting find though.
It is nearly circular, 13 kilometers long and 11 kilometers wide. During the dry season it can completely run dry.

Be interesting to see Felix,s new maps to see if it changes.

Garyw beat me to it.

It is a lake that evaporates like the Dead Sea, so it is pretty possible that it has a rather high salinity. Also the lake often evaporates completely.

Yeah, it's very probable that the lake completely evaporates during the dry season. Tchad is one of the hottest places of the world.
