There should be a water absorption region around 1300nm-1400nm.
I'd love to get a notch filter for that and see what the world is like in there.
No clue where to get it, however...

I remember some near-infrared videos on YT of supercell storm development (the timelapse kind, IIRC). Much of the rain was almost invisible, and the base of the cloud was much easier to see. The visible light version pretty much had only dark blue "goo" where in IR you would clearly see the wall cloud developing.

"IR" is much, much wider term than "visible".

There are many bands, colours and points of transparency or absorption:

The water vapour absorption area i talked about is the gap between 1 and 2 on the chart.

You can say that in visible light the leaves are kind of gray-ish, if you take all the wavelengths at once.
I.e., here is a wideband image from a CCD sensor capable of 350nm to 1000nm:

Now, let's break it up into narrow bands.
800nm (NIR that you talked about. The air and moisture is very transparent in this band, and vegetation is reflective):

600nm (red, vegetation absorbs it, sky is still pretty transparent):

500nm (green, not absorbed by leaves, the sky is getting opaque):

450nm (blue, absorbed by leaves, and the sky is almost opaque):

380nm (NUV, also absorbed by leaves, the sky is opaque, and the distant things get hazy as air itself lose transparency):

A different sensor can do 3400nm band, another window of atmospheric transparency.
Since i don't have any filters for that band, it also looks uniformly grey.

And here is the newest addition, 1000nm-1700nm.
See how the sky is slightly grey?
That's the water absorption component i was talking about, just like the blue and UV hides in the first wideband image.
But without the filters, it is lost among the light of other colours.

I'm starting to actually like mathematics after finally learning how to calculate the gravitational binding energy of a celestial body, its the weirdest thing I've ever done....I'm becoming one of those people.

As MattBaker said, please send help.

Always learn the maths though, they are far and away the most useful subjects of study that You will encounter in education, at least IMO anyways.

I just noticed that the subtitle is "Orbiter flight simulator". Maybe you should change that to "Orbiter spaceflight simulator". Or maybe "Orbiter flight simulator - IN SPAAAAACE!" :p

I think I'll add "Drive to Zurich to see guys playing chess" into the list of "poshest things I ever did" this february. I feel like I'm turning into one of those people, please send help.

Earlier this week, I was considering booking Nightwish concert on the sea.

Decided to sleep on the idea.

I wake up in the morning and I see an e-mail that there is a professional event I would like to attend... on the exact same day, but on the opposite side on the Baltic sea.

(I think they still have tickets for June 9th, get it if you want to!)
