Hi i started orbiter about one month ago. I have been looking for a game just like this.
I can get into orbit easily and i can deorbit,re
-enter and land safely (most of the time)
I have yet to learn how to rendevous and how to travel between planets.
Can any one tell me how close is this to real life space flight?

Hi!

Actually, it is. I started when I was almost 14, now I'm 15. It's not normal if you don't hail the probe though.

Except for the excessive button-pushing (though certain persons are trying to change that), its mostly like real spaceflight, and just like real life, you can't get past the speed of light (you can get pretty damn close). Look through the list of required addons above, and you should have a fulfilling time with orbiter!

As close as FSX is to getting a 777 into the air.

Most important things are on the mark correct. But you don't get the urge to vomit after 12 hours in Orbiter. Your spine won't ache. A hot reentry does not kill you. And you don't need to wait 3.5 hours on your back, before you can go to the toilet. also there is still no SAA wrecking your computer memory.

Orbiter permits unrealistic vehicles to fly in space, as long as you can give it aerodynamics, mass and thrust. So, real space flight is possible, but not always in Orbiter. Orbiter also usually always lets you know precisely where you are and where you are going. Something that is not that easy in space, navigation in the true sense of "finding out where you are" is not easy in real spaceflight.

Ok thanks for your support
two things why do you like a space probe
and is it just me or do orbiters ships seem over sized for the earth? i was in florida with an XR2 and i EVAd and my person looked so big nex to the nasa building

Not really, the UMMU persons are pretty average in size, especially without the space suit. The buildings are pretty small and the rockets pretty large.

The probe is Luna 3, the first probe to ever fly past the far side of the moon. I think it was a staple starting point way back in the early 2000s when the very first orbiter addons were being developed. Beyond that, I dont have a clue, but the lemming effect is powerful...

Yes! It Is! I'm 15, and I started playing with 13 years old!
Welcome!

The perception of normality is usually defined by it's context, so I guess whether or not it's normal would depend on where you are and who you are with. I'd say it might be normal when you are on the O-F

Yeah it's normal for 14 year olds to play computer games.

Normal is a very subjective term. I'd say it's perfectly normal if you are interested spaceflight, science, and engineering in general.

A long time ago I remember someone saying that they showed their 6 or 7 year old kid how to control it and that they were flying to the moon and such. Nobody is too young or old to enjoy orbiter!

I started using Orbiter when I was 10.

Also normal isn't really important. Do whatever you love as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

:welcome:

Id say that its normal, but it depends on what you would consider normal. I was 16 when I started orbiter.

Dont forget to :hailprobe:

I like space

And the orbiter community

I started playing at 13 and began creating planetary systems a little after i turned 14.

In fact, I'd go insofar as to suggest that Orbiter should be incorporated into the curriculum of physical science classes in middle and high schools. It's particularly useful for understanding the concepts of circular motion and orbital mechanics.
