Let's post images from the cities where we live. General pics and some points of interest of each city. People living in famous cities like London, NYC, etc. could post pics of less known places of their area.

Here's mine. Porto Alegre is the southernmost brazilian state capital (~500 km from the borders with Argentina and Uruguay). With 1,5 million inhabitants, it's the core of the fourth largest metropolitan area (4,4 million) in Brazil. The city lies on the eastern bank of the Guaíba Lake, formed by five rivers (Jacuí, Gravataí, dos Sinos, Caí and Taquari) and is one of the hosts of the next FIFA World Cup.

Porto Alegre has a lot of parks. Here's the Moinhos de Vento park.

Jay Littleton Ballpark in Ontario, California, was the ballpark where they filmed 'A League of Their Own'. That's really all we have...

We've also got Ontario INTL Airport, and MagLite...

Thank ya, sir! :tiphat:

Here's some pics I shot near the Como Zoo and Conservatory, St. Paul, MN back in early September:

2012-09-07 11.01.02.jpg

I found a lovely area a little bit off the beaten path (but still in a public area of the park), and fell in love with these trees. The zoo and conservatory is in the middle-ish part of the capital of Minnesota, and as such is a really neat, quiet spot in the middle of busy civilization.

2012-09-07 11.02.36.jpg

The scenery here provided me a wonderful refresher course in framing objects within a viewfinder; I love nature photography, and shooting pictures at things that don't bark at you when you point a camera at them. People, included. :)

2012-09-07 11.03.05.jpg

A wonderful example of how nature takes care of itself. A dead, rotting tree being processed in the middle of a biome-within-a-biome.

Bah, I was afraid of that. I'm still learning how to work fully with the hosting server, and I adjusted the permissions; are you able to copy them now?

(Edit: Wow. That was almost more work than it was worth. -500 cool points to me. )

(Edit edit: Wow. That was more work than it was worth. Forget the third-party hosting for right now. I uploaded the goods directly here. :p )

Sometimes I live here

4-indian-wells-2012.jpg

A picture of the Tennis Center in Indian Wells. Hosts a pretty big ATP and WTA tournament, which is always good fun to attend.

Live around the corner from there

We also got mountains.

And Joshua Tree Park is just down the road.

Sometimes I live here,

and at times, I live here:
ChicagoSkyline1.jpg

where the public schools are a joke, the police department is totally overwhelmed, record high murder rate, and the whole city smells like old nasty chocolate at night.

Yes! Pretty bucolic, the place remembers my father's little farm.

More exactly, in the city forest right behind this landmark:

Moscow!
mos_square.jpg

If you know where to look, you can still find the threatened species "homo communistus".
mos_kom_1.jpg

They still remember their forefathers.
mos_kom_2.jpg

Being nearly extinct, they are carefully guarded.
mos_guarded.jpg

On such days the roads are closed nearby, and people walk to and fro.
mos_square_walking.jpg

On the other days, there are still plenty of open spaces.
mos_central.jpg

Where police rides on horsebacks.
mos_horses.jpg

From above, you can see a regular bus/subway hub:
mos_pan_kah.jpg

An old style residential area:
mos_roof_alpar.jpg

Or more recent residential places:
mos_roof_evening.jpg

In the nearby accolyte, Zelenograd, the buildings are different:
mos_zeleno.jpg

Himki, the former town under the trees, is now a painted place with a big stadium.
We were never good at football, but we keep trying.
mos_himki.jpg

Sometimes things get ablaze.
mos_fiery.jpg

Sometimes it's a quiet night.
Over the Volga-Moskva canal:
mos_volga_can.jpg

Sometimes enough snow falls to make the night from day:
mos_snowy.jpg

The other day the sky is clear:
mos_vor_gor_pan.jpg

And you can watch the sun rise.
mos_stare_down.jpg

The roads are a bad place to get around on.
Sometimes the other kind of people, who consider themselves gods, close down whole highways.
mos_people_vs_govt.jpg

So people stream underground.
mos_metro_down.jpg

Into the most capacious subway system in the world.
mos_metro_station.jpg

And ride the trains under the earth.
mos_metro_train.jpg

While self-appointed gods race the empty roads, dearly afraid of the people they govern.
mos_people_vs_govt_2.jpg

Bonus, and infra-red shot:
mos_ir_park.jpg

Not a city, but Weymouth is home:

800px-Dorset_seafood_festival_in_Weymouth_from_Town_bridge_panorama.jpg

A nice place, shame it's sort of where the Black Death started in Britain... :shifty:

Home to the sea, perfect for children:
weymouth_1596124c.jpg

(ex-WW2 mine...)

The old pier, before a friend of a friend burned it down with a blowtorch (accidentally, we hope):
waymouth_bandstand2.jpg

Our only landmark on Google Earth; mind you, broadband speeds haven't really improved since it was built:
history.jpg

I can't not mention the Olympics, so here they are:
SEPT2012weymoutholympicspic1.jpg

(The boats in question are about 2 miles away...)

But all in all... I love this place!

Well since I live in the English countryside, my 'city' mainly consists of views like this (on the rare sunny days, anyway):

fields2.jpg

fields6.jpg

...however, the nearest town is called Gainsborough, and we go there for pretty much everything we need. Here are some pictures:

The famous 'old hall' which is probably the central landmark of the town:

Here it is in the winter:

Here's a view up the river that runs past the town:

Finally, here's a view of the church in the small village I live in:

Er, wait a minute...real life?

Another country-dweller here. This picture is nearly a year outdated, but the trees are changing again anyway so it's mostly accurate.

Whenever I get my camera back from my brother (who was photographic electrified pickles, but that's another story) I can crawl around Moncton and take some pictures. In the meantime I'll let Wikipedia do the work for me:
Moncton_Montage_b.png

I used to work at a restaurant at that waterpark in the middle...it's more or less our only tourist trap other than the new casino, and I worked at the restaurant there too. :p

If we trust a developer firm which is making works in my neighborhood, in few years all the fences and construction sites around are gone, and the view might be like this, with lots of light pollution:

The depressive dark apartment block in the down right corner is really where I live.

This is an awesome thread - Galactic Penguin - the streets of Hong Kong remind me a lot of New York! I think it actually has its own Times Square too, if I remember!
