Yea you're base and logo inspired me to use it as a concept launch site for lets say asteroid or comet missions which would require a remote location because of the nuclear payloads. :p I'm going to get it as a tattoo also.

Do I want to? Yes.
Will I ever? I doubt it.

Regarding what is available, I believe the repo is closed due to licensing BS. Face and I were both clear about our open source intent but it seems it's more complicated than that... I haven't ever got involved in the debate, but I simply support any of face's decisions regarding the repo availability. He will probably reply to this thread if my understanding is wrong, it wouldn't be the first time!


And PDF, I wouldn't even get a tat of my logo, you are brave/committed!

And you are spot on. The code is still there, of course, but it never got finished.
Given that 2016 makes base developing harder, I guess it will need a severe overhaul to get it up to speed. I don't have much time (or interest) to do that, and given the licensing BS, I have also lost my mojo regarding Orbiter addons. Perhaps it'll come along my way again while investing time in tools like OT3 and OMP.

After all, the first WIA was THE home base for OMP, so chances are that the successor to it will be AU, once I can get that dreaded mesh slicer to run in order to convert 3D meshes to 2D heightmaps :D . :cheers:

If somebody absolutely, totally, 100% NEEDS that base, I can certainly dig up some release binaries of it and give it to that person. But I doubt that's the case.

What licensing BS? Also not to be off topic but what's OT3?

That whole thread made my head hurt. And it derailed a lot of stuff in the development pipeline. :(

But! The good news is that WIN Ultra works great in Orbiter 2010. I've not fully integrated into Orbiter'16, I'm caught between worlds for a little while longer.

Just release it closed-source with all rights reserved. That way you have no problems here and nobody will give a dime.

Widewake is one of the most beautiful bases of Orbiter(for me), it's a sad thing not to implement it in Orbiter2016, I think anyone who uses Orbiter has Wideawake in the addon list. When I downloaded Orbiter Beta, the first thing I checked was the island of Ascension ... and there was not ... then I built it, because without it I can not stand :facepalm:

You can release a static version and then if you have time and will to improve, like Jaquesmomo Korou.

That's just my thoughts and respect for your decisions, but I hope to use Wideawake soon.

Ascension island terrain and textures have to be downloaded as a seperate high resolution tile pack. From the orbiter beta textures page. But it isn't as high resolution as the original wide-awake tiles. And there are some bugs with the land mask of those textures. Cant the orbiter 'high res' tiles be replaced with the wide-awake base tiles? Both are dds files. There's just the problem of mapping

Keep in mind that AU is completely different to the original WIA addon. Different layout, different architecture, different features. The only thing in common is the location.

I have already converted the original tiles with OT3 to be used in 2016, as well as used it to flatten the terrain there. It makes the original WIA addon look quite good in it.
