Also a note on Wagner and anti-semitism: It's not really accurate. Sure, Wagner was a nationalist, but that was the usual nationalism that lodged itself firmly in the head of every intelectual and artist at the time.

Every european nation was antisemitic at some point in history, some still are.
But because a majority does it still doesn't make it right, you have to accept it and know it's there and it happened, but still Wagner was antisemitic, Luther was antisemitic etc.
But it'd be an interesting discussion if you're bad, evil etc. if you were antisemitic in the 19th century or there were only average people and some guys were good because they weren't antisemitic.

I'd say that going along with the norm wouldn't have made a person evil - they were more or less the same as the people of today. We haven't evolved a better heart in the last century. There are certainly still social problems and stupidities ingrained firmly in many minds, which exist simply because... well, 'everyone else thinks so.'

This goes for what was done to African people by Europeans and Americans for so long; things which are now considered violations of basic human rights, with a new definition that actually includes blacks as part of humanity. It was scientifically supported at the time that those people were an inferior race incapable of the same intelligence displayed by people of European (and grudgingly some Asian) descent. Few people questioned it for a very long time, because it was normal to think so, and mainstream science endorsed it. Was everyone evil? Certainly not. We'd likely be much more indifferent to it, were we born a paltry 150 years ago. :2cents:

Certainly, anti-semitism was fairly prevailent in the day. That doesn't make it right. However, anti-semitism wasn't the topic of the day. It was baggage from earlier on that noone had really thought about, and its dangers were not yet made evident by someone who would make it the topic of the day. I'm fairly certain there's a lot of similar stuff floating around in our culture still, we just haven't recognised the full extent of its devastating potential and therefore don't make much of it.

So, anti-semitism was engrained in the culture, but not on a very concious level. As such, noone made a big fuss out of it, and as a consequence, it didn't find its way into the arts. Hence my claim that calling Wagner an anti-semite is not exactly accurate. It is not evident in his work, and he did not make art that aimed at discriminating semites.

It needed an explicit connection between nationalistic ideology and anti-semitism first to make this interpretation possible (sometimes we forget that nationalism and anti-semitism are not inherently linked and have indeed rather different origins), and that was done by Hitler.
In the end, what Wagner created was a fantasy epic mixing parts of the christian Nibelungen Song from the 12. century, the Edda and some other nordic mythological sources, inspired by the romantic ideal of nationalism (and, arguably, deconstructing it in the same go. I mean, has anyone listened to the thing? It goes all horribly, awfully wrong). A fantasy epic that some people at a later date would take a bit too seriously. But also a fantasy epic from which a certain professor Tolkien would draw quite a bit of inspiration.

Lately while searching my house's some forgotten corner, I found a strange, extremely thick book written by what seems to be a distant ancestor of mine - with the title "Nova Revelation". Unfortunately while written in English, the book is filled with some kind of history records with terms and objects that I have never seen in any corner of the universe, with incidents that I cannot even imagine. Yet there are others that fits many of the eventful days in recent history.

However it is this section, verse #1048576 of chapter 4698 of the book, that caught my interest:

First prophecy has failed - 2:0 instead of the predicted 3:1, but at least there's the late cliff-hanger.....

No one should be anti-any race. All racism is created equal--the fact that greater crimes have been committed in the name of anti-semitism doesn't matter...it's just as wrong to hate Jews as it is to hate Muslims, black people, or Chinese people. That's the problem with hate-crime laws: they make it a greater crime to kill a black person than to kill a white person

That is not uncommon, but a bit sad. I had at least seen an Ariane 5 upper stage, but never saw a space launch with my own eyes.

I have only seen sounding rockets while visiting the CLBI (Hell's Barrier Launch Center), but sadly no launch.

I might try and visit the CLA (Alcântara Launch Center) in the next years, and I still have hopes of seeing a successful VLS launch before I die.

I don't feel like riding in a car for several hours just to visit a manufacturer or a launch site. The last time we went to Southern CA was almost 10 years ago.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the Saturn V display at KSC. I'd hoped to see a manned launch sometime in my life, but that's not going to happen now unless I go to Russia some time in the next few years...
