News Exhibit Endeavour: NASA shuffles shuttles for final museum prep

Like the viewing of a dead corpse ! Nothing like it used to be.
A crying shame !

That's what happens after service. Look at all those aircrafts that all go to Davis-Monthan for the "Bone-Yard" all going to be recycled eventually leading to just the hull shape. Empty and void.

At least the hull will get to be seen from the outside by museums and she'd be just another display. And hopefully each of those museums will house her under roof. To protect against the elements out there.

But that's how it goes with all old technology. She can't be used again as it is more and more expensive to use as time goes. So she has to go like anything old. And make way for something more economical in using.

And hopefully the next flying and working space plane we send out there will have the name "Enterprise" on her. Not the prototype and test shuttle like we've seen in the past.

P.S.

Seeing that she's going to Los Angeles, maybe someday I'll go and be able to see her.

NASA plans to keep Atlantis as close to how it used to be as possible. The exhibit looks like it's going to be amazing.

The vehicle of reference is actually Discovery. Atlantis and Endeavour will have alot of items removed for engineering studies and for other programs such as SLS.

For example: The main engine actuators in the aft compartment will be removed, Atlantis is missing her External Airlock/Orbiter Docking System, Endeavour has had her ODS removed, as well as all three fuel cells are missing in both vehicles.
