also, the best way to learn the cornerstones of Russian history, is entering a beverage store... Vodka Gorbachev, Vodka Yeltsin, Vodka Putin, Vodka Medeveff.
No Vodka Brezhnev ... but I suspect, a potato would be better bearing his name.
"Miracle material graphene."
What can it do?
Create lightweight, cheap solar power?
Revolutionise launch vehicle construction or other materials science?
Build better processors?
Be used in medicine?
Be used as a substitute to expensive metal conductors such as copper for wiring and powerlines?
Be used to make better everyday items such as clothing, cookware, or living spaces?
No, at least not yet. But it can distill alchohol!
Graphene is like the 2-dimensional version of carbon nanotubes. As with nanotubes what's preventing it achieving these remarkable predicted properties is the lack of a means of producing it in arbitrarily large lengths and widths. I do think this will be accomplished though within a few years.
In regards to spaceflight, an application of this current research on graphene might be in the form of a "molecular sieve", if it could be adapted to separating oxygen and nitrogen in air. That would be useful for airbreathing propulsion.
Nanotechnology is a very interesting emerging field. Here's a site that with links to articles on the field:
