Last chance in the next 100 years for you to celebrate one of our calendar's... oddities, if you will :)

November 11th, 2011, at 11:11 :)

In short it will write as "11-11-11 11:11" (all ONEs, a single digit)

Next time that will happen is in year 2111.

It's not really perfectly uniform this time around. It was in year 11, year 111, year 1111, and will be again in year 11111 (9,100 years from now)

The next best thing after this one, although that will not be a single digit, is on december 12th, year 2012, at 12:12 pm = 12-12-12 12:12

Please don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying your computer will crash on this date or anything :)

But it IS a unique temporal mark on our western calendar none-the-less. And a fun 'oddity' because the time between these uniform dates grows by an order-of-magnitude (and 1) each time you pass one (from year 11 to 111, from 111 to 1111, etc. The next date is always 10 times (and 1) further away than the date before it)

So happy uniform-date day... or whatever we should call it (if it doesn't already have an official name)
:)

Hello and welcome to October.

BTW... I was baptized on a 11th November, 11:11 ... the priest was born near Cologne.

Yes I know it's october, but I wanted to be in good time in case someone wants to throw a party on this date or something ;)

Hopefully he wore cologne... ok lame joke :P
Köln has some great openair concerts though :) Guano Apes played a very impressive concert there in 1997. Ok that's offtopic

The first World War ended on that day too, and we hold Remembrance Day in accordance (in the Commonwealth anyway.) So...no party here. :P

Yes, Veteran's Day in the US. Several services planned for that day...maybe one could be at 11:11:11 .... on second thought....nahh.

Regardless of country...Thank a Vet.

And those eleven Doctors would be: W. Hartnell, P. Troughton, J. Pertwee, T. Baker, P. Davison, C. Baker, S. McCoy, P. McGann, C. Eccleston, D. Tennant, and M. Smith.

In switzerland, we call this kind of numbers "Schnappszahl" (liquor number). Apparently it is an old tradition from playing games (like dart, or bowling, or some card games), that when the total score of the game is a repdig at the beginning of a players turn, he has to get everyone a drink.

Happy Uniform Day for all on This Side of the Pond.

I celebrate the 3 x 11th anniversary of my baptism (see above)....
