Hello all I'm new to orbiter, played many other flight Sims, and this is top notch for being free. I've looked all over to see if I could find out why this keeps happening and I can't seem to find a thread where someone else has had the same problem, if I skipped it somehow I apologize.

The landing gear hotkey (G) on all of the ships stops working after the initial install. I can install the game, and then load/lunch it and the (G) will raise lower the gear with no problems. As soon as I close out of the "Orbiter Launcher" and then go to launch and play it again (G) will no longer work to raise and lower the gear. I can still do it manually by clicking the image in my cockpit, but cant get the hotkey to work. If I delete the game, then unzip and install it again it works fine, until I close all the way out of it then it goes back to not working.

Somehow some setting or something is getting changed when I exit that makes the gear stop working. Does anyone have any ideas? or an addon/patch that would fix this? any help would be great, ty all.

Never seen or heard that before.

Which cockpit ?

Any addons installed ?

Which cockpit ?
It won't work with any ship or their cockpits, after the initial launch at least.

Any addons installed
no, initially I had a few, when I got this issue I thought this may be the problem as well. I uninstalled the whole game and addons and did a fresh install of just the game. Same thing happened, worked at initial launch and then stopped working after I played it on the second (and beyond)launch.

Well what ship are you using exactly? I'm not sure how much it will help, but could you post the orbiter log?
It can be found by going through this line of steps:
Where ever you installed orbiter>Orbiter2010>Orbiter (The file called 'Orbiter' will be a text document. Copy and paste it into a
Code:
 box.)

He answered that twice already:

There are two text files called "Orbiter" in the main Orbiter directory (for those that choose to have Windows hide the file extensions). One is "Orbiter.cfg", the other is "Orbiter.log". "Orbiter.log" is the one you are after.

Here you go, I think this is the one you wanted.

Does anyone happen to know if there is a master file that holds the "Gear" command? For it to do this on every ship after I close the program for the first time I am thinking that somehow a file or command is getting changed as I close it. If there is a file that holds the gear extend/retract command at least.

I don't think that is it, there are no gear commands in that file that I have seen, I looked in both keymap.cfg and keymap2006.cfg and did not see anything relating to the landing gear. Unless its supposed to be there and is not, in which case that may be the problem.

If it is supposed to be in the keymap.cfg could someone post the command line for the gear please? i.e "CockpitCamRotateDown = DOWN ALT"

There is no such thing as a default gear down key command. Not all spacecraft have landing gear or use the landing gear the same way. This all depends on the spacecraft you are flying.

Oh...Normally, the gear is defined as an animation in the .dll file of the vessel.
I don't know, is "G" command working for other programs, simulators, games for you?

Yes, I just launched FSX and it still works there with no problems. Also it will work with Orbiter on the initial launch. It will also work with orbiter if I launch the game through the testinstall.exe (orbiter/install/testinstall.exe)

Does anyone know what the command line is, the one that is in the file of the ship that ties G to the gear? Also could you tell me where the file that contains that information is and what it is called, for instance for the Delta-glider.

Don't you think you should ask a much better question? ;)

Sorry, I'm on a massive amount of painkillers from a car accident and what I type usually sounds good in my head, doesn't always come out the right way. I edited it though so it should be comprehensible now...

Is it in the (...\orbiter\modules\deltaglider.dll)?

Ok, I found something else that I didn't notice before, since I use a joystick I didn't use the keyboard for much other than gear. But, NONE of the hotkeys work after initial play. I tried G,K,I, and D, they all work on initial install, but after closing and relaunching they no longer work. Any hotkey that controls the ship, even if it is in the "keymap.cfg" does not work, keys that do not control the ship work fine.
