I want to build an electric car

Looks like eye cancer...

Or a poor attempt at camouflage.

The red, white, and black thing in his sig isn't the car he's talking about. I'm not sure what that has to do with "Orbiter on Linux" but that seems to be the point he's making.

The electric car he's talking about can be seen by following the link.

Ah...yeah, now things make sense, I had a problem to see that he has a signature there. :D

Thought he wanted to make his dream electrical car look like that "neocubist painting of an explosion in a paint factory".

The problem is not the top speed with electrical engines, they have a pretty good torque curve and lots of power with fairly low engine weight. The problem is getting the electricity stored for also having a useful range. And have battery sets that can be recharged AND also survive long enough by the number of recharges AND don't cost almost as much as the car for replacing the aging batteries.

The Tesla solves this only by having very expensive battery packs that don't last very long. Better power stores are in laboratory phase, but still require work.

This is why you see such electrical cars often demonstrated as dragster - for the quarter mile, you don't need a large electric supply.

And the RC community serves as the beta testers...

Lately the entire RC community has shifted from nitro and gas power to electric... yuck!

Why not? I would prefer using a hot methyl fuel cell for that.

I know where you're coming from, having a little combustion engine all of your own is cool as hell... although, in my experience, also a temperamental pain in the arse! ;)

My electric car works every time and goes like poop off a shovel.

Hey, isn't gasoline a good way to store energy? Why don't we have the car use a gasoline generator to generate the electricity for an electric motor?

'Cause it's too inefficient, Hielor... :P

As far as I can understand, petrol/hydrocarbon stuff is still superior to battery technology in both overall and effective energy density, even with the much lower efficiency of an internal combustion engine.

I have a feeling this has to do with the fact that part of the energy storage is external... :shifty:

Relatively large electric motors are extremely efficient... I think their efficiency is pretty awesome...

If i remember correctly, electric cars have regenerative breaking systems that is, upon breaking, there is a component in the car that traps the energy it can get while breaking and convert it to useful energy the car can use while running. The problem, with these cars though, is the battery. I hope they could device ones that would be efficient, cost-friendly and higher capacity to reduce the risks of breaking down in a free way, which could be potentially dangerous even though smart cars have their own lanes.
