News F16 jet fighter makes emergency landing at Prestwick

Why would they? The aircraft was transiting UK airspace and following the rules. When the F-16 declared an emergency they landed at Prestwick. Why would the MoD need to be involved in any of that?

Just my suspicous mind?:)

An F-16 can fly all the way from Germany to the USA?

Oh wait.... external fuel tanks, or even mid-air refuel escort. Or even mid Atlantic carrier landing.

F-16's are not built for carrier landings.

Most modern fighters have very fairly long ferry ranges when equipped with external tanks. According to the wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-16_Fighting_Falcon), the F-16 has a ferry range of 2200nm. They were probably going to make a refueling stop in Greenland or Iceland, I'd bet.

Erm, how is this related to the topic at hand?

Yeah, heard about this, something slightly interesting happened in the west of scotland!

I'm still waiting for the extremely unlikely event of a Shuttle landing at Campbeltown Airport :P
