Good day. First of all I'd like to thank the whole forum for the great job you're doing. Every time I had any doubts, I always could sove it by reading your threads. I'm not lying, I've been registered for a long time and this is my third post.
Ok, I'm writing this because in orbiter 2006p1 I made some addons (just used for my own, as long as they were not tested deeply) and worked perfectly. But now I'm trying to make my contribution to the community and I'm not able to match the units, I mean, I put meters in 3ds and have much bigger meshes in orbiter that they should be. The opposite also happens. If I try to import from 3ds I get much smaller figures in 3ds. So, what units system must I use in 3ds to avoid this problem?

Thank you in advance

AFAIK orbiter seems to use meters....

yet, "units of measure" are an alien concept to the way models are dealt with by DirectX... as that uses "generic units" which are left for the developer to interpret as he will :hmm:

so while 3ds (i assume you mean 3dsmax, right?) shows you "meters" - it's really just scaling the displayed digits... this is for reference, used in architecture mostly - hence, does not affect the exported meshes....

in general, i mostly ignore the units and go by eye... import another mewsh for use as a reference, then size your model accordingly - it -should- export alright

if you must use precise measurements tho, i suggest you leave the displayed units set to "generic" and simply consider them as meters - i don't trust whatever conversions 3dsmax may try to pull off

good luck!

Are you using the latest msh export/import scripts by Mindblast? I know an earlier version had the problems you describe but they have since long been fixed. I'm using GMAX andn doesn't have any problems with correct sizing in Orbiter(export) or GMAX(import).

Thank you both, I'll try to test your ideas.

I'm using v1.3 of max2msh by Mindblast, so don't think it has anything to do with the script itself. Thank you again.

PD: I'll let you know if you're right as soon as possible.

I think I've solved it. It was nothing related to the script. I have been a noobie :( I had only changed the display units, not the system units, so though it displayed me in 3dsmax the correct size, when the script attempted to read the dimmensions it read other constants (think inches), so I had my meshes enlarged in orbiter. Because of the same reason, when I imported a mesh each unit (a meter) was converted to a system unit (an inche), so the mesh was shrinked. Thank you both for helping me with this issue, as you both have helped me getting the solution with your ideas.
