Hi everyone. I am brand new to Orbiter, and have just downloaded Orbiter 2010. I am discovering lots and lots of addons that have been created by others for Orbiter 2006, and would like to download some of them, but I fear I will screw something up if I install them in Orbiter 2010 and they are not compatible.

Many of these addons were created before 2010 was released in beta form, so the read-me files make no mention of Orbiter 2010. Is there any guidance, or a list of addons that can be used in Orbiter 2010? How can I tell if an older addon will work, or not work?

Thanks in advance.:)

Thanks for such a quick answer. The thread you sent me to is great. I will examine it whenever I encounter an addon I want to download.

In general, can I assume that planet and moon textures, cloud textures, etc. will work OK in orbiter 2010?

Orbiter 2010 already comes with some nice high-res textures, particularly of Earth. Is there any texture, cloud or atmosphere addon for Earth or Moon that exceeds the texture level in the 2010 default download, that I can download?

Thanks again.

All planet textures designed for Orbiter 2006 will work with Orbiter 2010.

In fact, a lot of addons created for 2006-P1 will work with Orbiter 2010. The best thing to do, if you're wanting to install one which hasn't yet made the list or you're unsure about, is to use something like JSGME to enable it in Orbiter and then test it with minimal risk. JSGME keeps track of the files it copies into your installation, making it easy to remove the addon should it not work or break your install.

If, of course, the addon works and nobody else has reported back on it, add it to the thread computerex linked.
