I've ( finally) been able to optain a original Space shuttle tile complete with signatures from the entire STS-124 crew.
This will make a nice discussion piece in my home; don't find these every day lying around !
Can anybody figure out by the numbers were exactly on the shuttle this one would be located ( I think it was on the right side just above the front window section)

Now I just have to find a way to explain the price-tag to my wife !
Anyway, cool to have with the pending shuttle retirement

Nice acquisition! You might want to try posting on the nasaspaceflight forums. Someone there might know the panel location?

Congratulations! A very nice piece to have indeed.

Thread moved to off-topic.

Whoa, now that's COOL! :speakcool: :speakcool: :speakcool:

If you don't mind me asking, may I ask you:
Where exactly did you obtain that - ebay??? :P
And how much did it cost you? - are we talking hundreds or thousands?? ;)

I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

*If you'd rather not say where you got it, and how much it cost you, then I understand.;)

i think you are right, R1NST3 is AFAIK the region where the tile should be installed, the other codes in the line define position in the patch.

The second line is the MSID used for recording damages on this tile, but the MSID is not related to the region of the tile, it is more a identifier in the database. "V070-1921G" should be constant for each tile of this kind, but I am not 100% sure. could also just be just "V070-192_G_", the MSIDs are grouped by subsystems and datapath, and thus not a simple relation of code to part.

The third line should be serial number.

I actually snatched it off good old eBay from somebody in Titusville, Florida ( probably a KSC worker) for $199.

Urwumpe, were is the AFAIK section located on the shuttle ?

On the flight deck, behind Panel C5 and C4. There should be all the AFAIK you need.

(AFAIK = As far as I know)

I can't yet tell WHERE the respective tile is, but I know a way how you could: Get recent high-res photographs of the shuttle and look at the tiles. Especially during docking, the region which you are interested in could show readable markings.

Thanks for the help, that should get me there !
