Hi all.

Does anyone know where I can get lens flare effects for Orbiter?
I cant find them anywhere.

Thanks.

To my knowledge there aren't any!
Lens flare was a feature of the 2006 version without the patch.

Nope it wasn't. You're confusing it with sun glare. Sun glare was removed as it was buggy and badly implemented.

Thanks for clarifying that. As always my knowledge needs to get shot...

Lens glare/lens flare is indeed something you'd only see in a recording, since it's a product of light bouncing around the lenses of a camera. If you want to add a lens flare to a still shot from Orbiter (or a video, i suppose) the best way would probably be to use some kind of post-processing.

Careful, though--while the right amount of lens flare can add much realism and be the final finishing touch on a piece, too much and you've moved into the domain of "lens flair" and just ruined your picture.

What about bloom? That would be cool to see in Orbiter.

Lens flare can easily be Photoshopped into a screen grab.

You may see lens flare when looking through a window with your helmet visor closed, although that's a stretch.

Even so, those of you who remember the mid-90s Activision game Battle Zone will remember that it had a really cool lens flare effect whenever you looked near the sun from the Moon's surface. Since the only views we have from the moon are through a camera lens anyway, this really enhanced the realistic feel of the game.

As Pilot7893 suggested:

How about lens flare coming through the ISSU interior windows!

If you want to ruin a good add-on, do that. But remember: Human eyes have no lens flares. You need complex optics of many lenses for producing them.

There are even optics, which can't produce lens flares at all.

:@ Say to no lens flair. :@

To me, like Andy44 said, a type of lens flare effect would add to the immersion. Why? I can't look near or at the sun on a clear day without being dazzled, and in space it wouldn't be different. Since the monitors lack the dynamic range of the real world, this is one way to imitate that effect.
Maybe not having a lens flare par se, but the kind you have in FS9, where the view gets washed out the closer the sun gets to the center of the screen? And to comply with the different preferences of the users, make it optional.

Perhaps someone could do a lens flare plugin that you could activate or deactivate when you want?

Well, if anyone wants to do this, as a separate addon to ISSU, that would be great, then you could just choose if you use it or not:)

So, do we have anyone offering to do this? I should think it would have to be a joint project between many users?

I SUPPORT IT!!!!!
