Here is a top and bottom skin remake of the the XR2 that gives you the Royal Mail livery.

Update notice... Added credits.

Installation...
Installation wont over-right your currently used livery skins so just extract into your orbiter directory. A Scenario which uses the skin is included in the Ravenstar/skin demo scenarios folder in  Orbiters Launchpad.

If you wish to use them as standard then open the zip and take the skins from the Textures/XR2Ravenstar/Skins/Royal Mail folder and place them into the Orbiter/Textures/XR2Ravenstar folder, over-righting your current skins.

Original credits go to Douglas E Beachy and Steve"Coolhand"Tyler.

 Another excellent skin. The drawback to this one is that any delivery is always a week late now.....

All we need now is a "Royal Mail XR2 payload" addon and we're set to deliver second class* to the ISS!

*Subject to delays and timing errors. Second class post to LEO is not guaranteed to arrive. Please check with your distributor. Royal Mail take no responsibility for loss or damage to personal artifacts or mail while in space, nor do their insurance policies cover reentry, ascent, or act of Woo482.

Hey ! I can fly perfectly fine  really nice skin pennyblack

naw, what'll happen is they'll take it all the way up there, realise the postage is about 2p short so they wont deliver it to the recipient and bring it aaaall the way back to the sender.

Better to do that on the way up than for post coming back down, huh, would hate to have to abort a reentry to return it to ISS :P

I enjoyed reading your comments... Good job I didn't do British Rail.

I'm thinking about UPS, a dark brown livery with gold logo and streaming.
Dark looks good in an atmosphere that contains alot of light but they can, like the German styled XR2 skin, look almost invisable in the dead of space.
I think theres a trick called light mapping, that can be used as lamps to shine and light areas of the ship externally, if you know what I mean. I really want to look into that.

light mapping? hmm. not sure what you mean... Perhaps you mean baked / precalculated illumination in the form of a bitmap?

You dont need to do this (nor for technical reasons would you be able to), as i have already included ambient occlusion pass in the paint kit. Orbiter has an ambient light - an even low level of illumination. By pre-calculating the occlusion and using it as part of the map we can add some shading to this ambient lighting - so things dont look all flat shaded and artificial. You can set the ambient light in the startup screen.

As for using the ambient occlusion layer, you should blend this layer in photoshop or gimp, at some point in your layer stack (there's no right or wrong, as long as it looks right) I'd use something like 'multiply' mode to add dark shading over the top of other layers... conversely it can be used to add higlights to a dark texture by blending using 'screen' and you will also want to tune the transparency of the layers or double up the layers for a more obvious effect, whatever works

Remember also that orbiter has only a low dynamic range for lighting at the moment... but in many ways it makes things simpler. my last bit of advice, if your ambient occlusion is set to a reasonable level (and your monitor / gamma is tuned properly) and you still can't see the ship at night, and if that annoys you, simply use a brighter skin;)
