Would you go into space?

I definetely would take the chance in any way shape or form.

Here's a question (though a bit morbid)... If a modern day funeral costs $10,000, for the same price, would you rather have yourself cremated and launched into space for eternity?

I'm thinking a moon shot... High velocity impact on the lunar surface, make your own crater... we name it after you... 10,000,000 years from now your crater will still be there (unless an asteroid lands on you...)

and theres no risk involved... you're already dead!

I'd prefer a trans-galactic trajectory. Take thousands of years just to go a few light years, but atleast whatever's left of me still'd be there instead of blown away or consumed when the sun goes nova.

Heck, if the only spacecraft I could choose from was a copy of the first Vostok rocket, which meant re-entry would involve being tumbled around in a high-G environment before being ejected out of the capsule before landing on the ground in a parachute, I'd still scream yes. Heck, that sounds downright cool.

What I'm really hoping for though, is as the space tourism industry grows, and suborbital flights become more common, that I could become one of the pilots working on a suborbital craft.

My ideal mission would be a Lunar landing mission. My mission would be just to stand and stare at everything, especially the Earth from the Moon's surface. I can't think of anything more stunning than to actually see the Earth suspended there in that black sky. That must be a view to die for!

If I were to go further afield, it would be a few hundred-thousand light years above the plane of the Milky Way so I can take it all in. The Milky Way is spectacular enough from Earth (even from the less-than-perfect viewing conditions of Snowdonia), but to see that immense spiral below me....WOW.

I'd go, especially if it was to the Moon. If the first lunar 're-visit' is in 10 years, I'll be 25 or 26, and I plan to have a career as a fighter pilot for the RAAF. To be honest, I'd trade a kidney to be one of those lucky people. I'd say a limb, but then I wouldn't be qualified...

That would be awesome, but I think I'd only have part of myself cremated and shot up there. If all of me was up there, where would my future wife and kids go to put flowers and all that stuff?
