No idea, but I know my speed!
Hello,

I have recently taken my AS exams in the U.K. and have the summer holidays very shortly. Does anybody know of any science relevant (observatories, labs etc) around the SE of England I could contact about work experience? I know the odds are slim but I would like to try anyway.

Thanks,

Will Wilson

University science departments are probably the best bet - I had the same dilemma last year, but I decided to go to some summer schools in Cambridge and Durham instead of doing work experience.

More engineering related and depending where you are in the SE it might be worth looking into MOD Boscombe Down with someone like QinetiQ or DESG?

QinetiQ might well do work experience as they seem pretty good with internships, apprenticeships and grad schemes and have sites in Kent, Essex, London and Hampshire as well if Boscombe is too far.

As for DESG (Defence Engineering and Science Group), they regularly put out adverts recruiting scientists and engineers throughout the UK with various grad schemes and seem pretty keen on 6th Form/Undergraduate schemes as well so might also be willing to offer work experience?

Having occasionally heard about various projects both are working on, most of it does sound like it's at the cutting edge engineering and research-wise and I'd have thought interesting to somebody looking to a scientific career?

Just a thought anyways, good luck
