Movie almost finished.. just proofing / doing final tweeks now. I expect to release it some time tonight!

I'm seriousely thinking of adding the Resolve launch tower and some landing pad points ( without textures of course ) to the base to make it one of my primary launch facilities. There's still plenty of room left on the Island for those who like to tinker like I do. Maybe an access road that runs around the side to the new pad ...... I'll play around with it and send you the results in a PM.
 
Feel free to tinker away, tgep. There is tons of extra crap you could add to the base, I could have been deving this for months more if I didn't say stop at some point. I also purposefully didnt have all the hangars as one mesh so that people can add more if they wish, or use them in other bases. I'm still considering making more stuff for Ascension, and releasing them as bonus packs. But time is tight at the mo and I'm gonna get the ORRL stuff done before I decide what's next for AIA.

Oh and remember that Resolve International has scenarios from Ascension using the GPLP with the resolve mlp. Although, you will have to tweak positions now because I shifted the position of the pad base slightly with WI... I really should patch that on OH.

I remember those. Some of my favorites for AI actually. :)

I figure by adding non animated launch positions like the Resolve tower and the NASA Direct tower, I can add a simple access road around the perimeter for crawlers and such and put non textured landing pads on them for speedy launcher placement.

I can add the landing pad points at the same position as the hangars and then taxi out to a runway for takeoff. :speakcool:

The only thing I'm uncertain of at this point is if the access road should be dirt or concrete.
 
I just realized that a VERY crucial thing is missing. Especialy with the aspect of launching rockets. It desperately needs a harbour!
 
Sounds like a nice idea, tgep. And if you were to ask the AIA board of directors if it should be dirt or concrete, they would yell concrete... look at the base, they love the stuff! Just rip the surface tile dds's and edit them, using the existing concrete texture on them. Would blend in nice that way.

and haha TSP, you don't know how close I came to adding a port... and a town... and more hangars.. and an observatory... and a whole radar and coms facility... and a forth runway... and a... you get the idea. ;)
Though I'm still considering making an expansion for the island, with extra pointless fineries. A port would certainly feature in that.
 
Well, the extra launch towers have been added. I used the simplest low poly meshes I could find. :)

There are now launch pads for projects Mercury ( Redstone and Atlas ), Gemini, part of Apollo, Resolve, NASA Direct, and a variety of other pads for variouse launchers like the Delta and Atlas-V series.

Still to do:
Add Saturn-V pad
Add concrete roadways
Add landing pads to hangars.

I'll include a set of scenarios with the files I send ya as well as a read me with all the required add ons listed and the lauch pad position data.

wow tgep, sounds pretty complete a list of pads. Personally I wouldn't have need for all the old historical pads, since WI is based in the 'future', but sounds like you've been very busy!

Cheers, Interceptor. I hadn't planned on releasing the AIA skins, but I may consider it. They are not properly configured for the SKIN control of the XR-5, instead they were made ages ago in beta, before that function was available, so I may need to do some tweaking. I shall putit on my long to-do list, that way it might get done some time.
 
as far as I know you should not need to change a lot to make them custom skins that you can load.
 
that's true, woo. But I'm not even sure if the UV's I have are the same as the ones used on the latest textures, which means they may warp/stretch when I run them on the latest xr5 release (i'm still using a beta!). I shall have a gander some time and check it out.

The last of the Pads have been installed. The base now has

Mercury ( Redstone & Atlas )
Gemini ( 2 pads for duel launch missions )
Titan-II
Apollo Saturn-1b "Milkstand" type
Apollo Saturn-5 pad ( for really big boosters )
Atlas-II pad
Delta-IV \ Atlas-V
Venturestar
Resolve
Ariane series pads
And a complete series of russian pads ( Vostok,Soyuz,Proton,N-1,Energia )

Any conceivable launcher can now be fired off from Ascension WideAwake without worry of not having a compatible pad.

I have used the lowest poly meshes I could find and modified a few to make the mesh files smaller. So far I have noticed no frame rate hits from all the extra meshes added to the base but I havent tried out all my launchers as yet. The CTV-Pegasus looks frakking AWESOME lifting off from its pad at Ascension !

You know what's next don't you? A video in which every pad is launched one after the other... The Ascension Island Airshow maybe?! :)

At the very least, lets see a screenie, be interested to see how you squeezed all the pads in. Did you add VABs too?
 
No, I wanted to keep the additional meshes and textures to a minimum. I wanted the Stock VAB to be the central focus of assembly. The launch pads are spread out over the island except for the heavy launch facilities. I kept them in a line with the large GPLP to keep crawler travell to a minimum.

Where there are a lot more pads to launch from, there is still plenty of room left on the island for future expansion of new facilities. The main base area is still the focus and control point of all launch and recovery activity.

I still need to add access roads and tarmacs. I'll post some pics on my site later today and send you the link.

Hi,

Nice base and a welcome addition to my setup. But, I cannot find the 'cargo' add ons that are used in the XR5 scenarios... I have looked everywhere so if somebody could put me out of my misery....it would be appreciated.
