I am writting this because I want to know how much interest people have in the Jupiter system. My first spaceport I created was on Ganymede and I find I spend VERY little time there since there isn't really any other base in the system so this is my idea... and if it is to come into existance, I'll need some feedback

Loki Patera, is an an active lava lake, it is a large shield-shaped red glowing feature in my orbiter. Heat emitted from Loki can be seen through telescopes all the way from Earth. It is therozed that it is a sulfur lake with a floating cooler sulfter platform floating on top and this is where I would build a surface base

The principal use of sulfur, however, is in the preparation of its compounds. The most important sulfur compound is sulfuric acid. Other important compounds include sulfur dioxide, used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant, and refrigerant; sodium bisulfite, used in paper manufacture; carbon disulfide, an important organic solvent; hydrogen sulfide, sulfur trioxide, and thionyl chloride, used as reagents in chemistry; Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate), used as a laxative, bath additive, exfoliant, and magnesium supplement in plant nutrition; the numerous other sulfate compounds; and sulfa drugs.

If you want to park a craft on the moon and take a look for yourself, Long 49.960 Lat 13.180 is where the middle of the base will be. Not sure why a base would be there unless someone can tell me a good reason. The base doesn't have to be part of ReFuel line it could be Jovian Mining Corp instead but I would like to hear some feedback

I'd be interested. Jupiter is a system we need to explore more, I think. :)

not sure how useful sulfur dioxide would be as a refrigerant for cryo based fuels like LOX/LH2 fuels, but this is all for fun... But I want to have some science to back my creations

Btw, do u have a full Jovian system of the 63 known moons?

I'm really interested in this add on you are proposing. One of the things that really bums me out about orbiter is that you have all these beautiful planets and scenery but there is really no where you can chill out or refuel or rest or whatever, meaning that are no bases.

I was thinking of making a big surface base/space station network so that navigation through the solar system could be easier and more fun. That remains to be seen. Anyways if you need any help making this add on I would be more than glad to help you out with it. Let me know how it goes.

I had the same idea as u do and I am making these bases under the name of ReFuel. My skillz in 3d modeling are non-existant so if you want to help with making ReFuel ships (containers with the logo, RSRM's to strap onto things with the pain theme that I have for the DGIV, please do so... I have an idea for a few space stations to be located in Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus space. Also a LARGE unmanned cargo barge that could fly the distances and move fuel, foodstuffs and replacement craft.

If your interested in helping me with some of these ideas we can get in touch and talk more

Thank the divinity of your choice that there is no radiation support in the XR-x or DGIV, because going to Io or even near it once is enough to kill you in a few minutes... I know this is "fantasy" base planning, but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents that any base on Io would need A LOT of rad shielding...

:)

This is very true about the radiation, but I think the landing site i choose was just too darn cool at night when doing the approach. It would need ALOT of shielding, perhaps a magnetic bubble is around the thing in this case you can't dig down deep to protect yourself since your floating on a chunk of Sulfur. I will have to think about limiting the nav beacons or come up with something to reflect this shortcomming. Maybe instrument approach will only work 20km vs the normal 500km I been using following with the other bases that are in the sim. One thing I try to think of with location of these bases is the challenge of approach. Be it latitude, or instrument approaches, atmosphere challenges, just about anything else I can throw at you the pilot to make it fun, not just another boring transfer and landing.

Any susgestions about how I can add challenge to this base would be appeciated

One thing I just thought of.... how about a hard shield... Something simular to a glass dome but instead of holding in atmosphere, it is a there to provide radiation protection. you have a small portal in the shield in which to fly though and then u can land at the base. Using the runway lights object you could get an approach vector that you can use to make sure you fly though the hole on a glide slope
