Too bad they crop half of the picture.

"Unbeknownst to even the NARA archivists, the reels contained wide format scenes of the Saturn V launch, the inside of the Launch Control Center and post-mission activities aboard the USS Hornet aircraft carrier"

Let's see if they use the original "wide format"...
Anyway, the onboard stuff is cropped, at least in the trailer.

Some aviation news, including British Airways putting a classy retro scheme on a 747.

Now if only QANTAS would paint up a 747 in the old V-Jet colors.

As far as I can tell it looks like the original film elements, that were then cropped and used on classic NASA Apollo 11 documentaries like Moonwalk One.

The onboard stuff can be cropped if they handle it well. Specially of they straight the fisheye perspective like I've done here:

I want to see the full frame, with the correct aspect ratio, regardless of what my TV/PC/cell phone screen looks like. This applies to NASA engineering cameras, WWII footage, movies and TV shows.

You are assuming that all the image recorded is the intended image.
That's not the case. Many directors actually record in larger formats and then crop to get the intended framing....

I too prefer the original Aspect Ratio, but if image composition allows manual cropping, adjusting the composition on each scene, I'm for it.

Wreckage from the USS Hornet was discovered in late January 2019 by the expedition crew of Paul G. Allen’s Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel. The Hornet was found 5,400 meters (nearly 17,500 feet) below the surface, resting on the floor of the South Pacific Ocean around the Solomon Islands.
