Hi to everybody, my name is Alex and this is my first post.
I've been using orbiter since around 2005 and I really think it's awesome, I'm mexican-french, I live in Mexico City. So here's the thing:

I'm really exited about an idea I've been having about creating a utility spacecraft mainly for moon operations. You know, getting supplies to ships like the arrow freighter from Brighton Beach to ships in orbit. I'm thinking about transporting 50 UCGO crates, but id have to know what dimensions we're talking about (for the crates), the ship's (and the crates') mass and the thrust I'd need to get the ship into orbit; main engine, hover engine, the works. Could anybody help me ?

Another thing. I just downloaded version 2010 of Orbiter, installed LOLA MFD and couldn't get it to work. When I opened it, the MFD screen only showed my ship's name. Does it even work in Orbiter 2010 ?

Thanks for your help, Alex.

:welcome: to Orbiter-Forum ! You unfortunatly wouldn't be able to transport 50 UCGOs due to a limit in the UCGO SDK(it limits it to 40 per vessel), the UCGO creates are 1.3 meter cubes and the mass depends on the cargo, I normally use 1,000 kg while working out if it'll work though.

Couldn't believe that was you writing that

If he would just click your "woo482's Addons"-link...

About Lola:
Yes, i am missing her smooth way to approach a base and gently touchdowns

But there is at least one of the addoners, who has a look at Lola for Orbiter2010 - that's for sure!

In the meantime there are more than enough helpers for 2010, that's also for sure.

Just have a look

Happy orbiting Alex!

Edit:
Lost the line totally...

Baseland-MFD is probably what Alex is searching for

The most of all: You don't need to supply an arrow-class freighter in moon-orbit. It's designed to land on low-gravity-planets itself.
Using its own very good autopilot btw.

And last, not least
:hail:LazyD RIP (the original author of Lola)

 , I'm not using one vessel in my UCGO addons, that's why you can carry so many :P

@woo482

Yeah - thats the trick

But can you tell me please, how are you able to store 1.3m^3 exactly cubes side by side in a 2,5m wide (brutto) TEU? Must be a special paint - uh??

Point taken, however. Why waste precious fuel landing on the moon to resupply when you could have a cool aircraft get the cargo for you ? Lol... Thanks by the way, I'll look that MFD up.

By the way, does anybody know what's the docking ring's dimensions ? (meters please) I've been looking for those everywhere.... By the way, I'm about to finish the mesh :headbang:

Isn't wasted
Just imagine our long-range-baby has had an at least half year journey when approaching the first available gas pump. I'm pretty sure she's needing much more service than only fuel.

And, as said earlier, you will miss the smooth and accurate touchdown, even the arrangements you have to make for the arrival of a big ship (LandingBeacon i.e.) and, last not least, the chance to drive around the Azure for system check, crew transfer and establing fuel lines.

In earth orbit it's recommended to use an XR5 or similar, which is a freigther itself (with capability to reenter earth's atmosphere and enough pressurized space for maintenance personel and passengers) or better an orbiting shipyard (have seen some starwars-related stuff at OH).

I'll be happy when someone can get LOLA to work with 2010. BaseLand is good, but LOLA worked great with tail sitters like lunar landers. I can land manually, but landing on a pad that way can be frustrating.

Docking rings ?

So, anyhow, does anybody know what the size of the docking rings in meters ?

Not meant to be a necropost but seriously interested: Did anything change here?

Because I played with LolaMFD yesterday and it worked pretty well in 2010P1. I tried autolanding on both Mars and Europa, with a XR-2 and DGIV. Both worked quite well when started in some low circular orbit.

It just can't seem to "finish it" but it got me within 1000m of base with ~0 horizontal velocity in both cases, so it wasn't really a challenge to take over then.

I've used Lola a few times with Orbiter 2010P1, and for the most part it works, but sometimes it doesn't. It crashes when I try to use it with Mercury, but with the moon and Io it works just fine. I haven't tried it anywhere else.

From what I understand, LolaMFD isn't really working for atmospheric entries -- though it does work on Mars as atmosphere almost does not matter. Though of course it shouldn't crash :D

It does try some weird stuff if you haven't open the hoverdoors, though :)

This addon is a UCGO cargo container roughly modelled after a "Twenty-foot equivalent unit"(TEU)

not a special paint :D

anyway it would be nice to see somekind of platform for shuttle A
