Uragan's existence remains conjectural, but, had it existed, it was a larger, three-crew, armed successor to the Spiral/EPOS/Mig-105 program.  Built to counter the U.S. Space Shuttle, particularly military missions out of Vandenberg, the Spiral would have been a space interceptor.
Or, it can haul passengers to Mir.  It'll do that too.

Requires Velcro Rockets for launch scenarios.

Interesting, now I know what Craig Thomas was thinking of when he wrote 'Winter Hawk'.

It I can get Velcro to work on this old machine I might try and simulate the final scene of the book.

Also, is it possible to launch the spacecraft using the old [ame=http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=684]CVEL Proton[/ame]?

Yes, the old CVEL Proton ought to work fine. Just paste the Uragan payload line onto the old Proton. You'll probably have to fiddle with the Z-value.

If I get it to work I'll post the scenario to this thread.

Interesting add-on Sputnik! I am also excited by the passenger capability, mainly because I was looking for a russian themed alternative to the venerable Soyuz for my space station. I may have just missed it in the documentation, but what is the capacity of the passenger 'payload' included in this add-on? I noted a crew of three, but I assumed that would be expanded if you designate a passenger area.

Thanks, Sputnik!

You didn't miss it, because I didn't say...at least, I don't think I did. There's room for 8 in there, I think, but they'd have to be stacked on multiple levels and with that many I think the lower levels would have the upper one's feet in their faces. So, if I had to pick a number, I'd say 6, plus some cargo room.

...so you can think of it as a Russian HL-20, but you can install an actual "killer app"....

The I've completed what I call a 'rough draft' scenario allowing the launching of the Uragan on the CVEL-Proton. This is for experienced Orbiteers as there is no launch autopilot.

Spacecraft names come from Craig Thomas's "Winter Hawk", in the novel the 'Kutuzov' launches to rendezvous with Atlantis to symbolize the signing of an Arms reduction treaty.

Code:
BEGIN_DESC
An Uragan launched on a CVEL Proton-K. This is not the "historical" launch vehicle, and it would have been more cumbersome and expensive than a Zenit. But it would have been slightly more capable, allowing higher orbits to be reached.
END_DESC

Cool!

Uh, it appears I don't HAVE the old Proton-K installed any more, so I haven't looked at it yet. But it looks nice.

I've downloaded the PEG autopilot and plan to give it a try out, I'll let you know how it flies with that.
