I live on the 25 ILS about 10 mile from Newcastle Airport, North East UK.

Just heard this going over, and it sounded unusual. Its a 747, not a usual visitor.

Nothing much on Radar24. Is it "Black" transport...?

According to what I can find, 747s are not that uncommon on Newcastle, much to the anger of the neighbors.

I'll have to disagree with the sources, 747s are quite rare. I've lived here 5 years and the 25 runway is usually used because of the prevailing winds and this is the first for me.
Newcastle is a busy regional airport with most flights to Europe and North Africa.
I think the furthest regular one is Emirates 777 to Dubai once daily.
Normally its A320 and 737 with some turboprops.

You do see NATO aircraft doing approaches when they are on exercise in the North Sea and using the Spadeadam Electronic Warfare area.

They did get Air Force One into it, but that was a while ago...
