MCC #6 was performed early this morning with a delta V of 400 m/s with no flags on any of the 4 EHEs used.

The transit from Jupiter to Saturn has been nominal with no unexpected engineering problems. The main bearing on centrifuge #3 needed a little extra time for its scheduled maintenance but nothing that a little patience couldn't handle. The advice of Gemini 10/Apollo 11 astronaut Mike Collins concerning movement in space ("Take it slow and don't rush.") is the best advice.

In 15 days we plan on starting a series of 1 to 5 minute phasing burns that will not only fine tune our approach to Saturn but will reduce the delta V requirements for our SOI burn 10 days later. This is similar to the phasing burns we did on our Earth approach during Mission 1.

We have plenty of delta V budget remaining although we will have to refuel at Titan Station once construction is completed. Unlike Europa, Titan does not have an easy supply of H2O to mine for fuel, however, there are a multitude of Saturn moons that are almost entirely frozen H2O. It may take a bit longer to refuel due to orbital mechanics, but there is plenty of fuel to mine in the Saturn System

All boards are green at this time.

The remaining milestones for this mission:
  • T+120 Days Begin Saturn approach phasing burns
  • T+130 Days SOI burn
  • T+145 Days Arrival at Titan and begin construction of Titan Station
  • T+295 Days Departure from Titan Station
  • T+315 Days MCC #7
  • T+350 Days MCC #8
  • T+375 Days MCC #9
  • T+395 Days Arrival at Lunar Station and end of SSTV-01 Mission #2
