It's called "Return to Launch Site abort" (RTLS). The problem was that the ceiling was only 3800 feet (with a limit of 4000). If you are following guidance as you drop through the clouds, and when you breakout and find out that guidance was a little off, you don't have a lot of time left to correct your approach at 300 knots. I've flown it before in the sim, I know how quick that last 4000 feet goes by...

That and the Range need to be able to optically track the vehicle for the first 30 seconds before it can be acquired by radar, which leads to them having a ceiling limit of 6000 ft.

So both Houston FD and the SRO was NO-GO due to the low ceiling.

God Speed Endeavor!

We need that window for some more jaw-dropping photos! :tiphat:

Launch occurred on-time today at 4:14 am EST(0914 UTC). Now working POST-INSERTION procedures in the ascent checklist.

Can't wait to see the shots from inside the cupola when it's installed.

Ohh, those cupola pictures are going to be amazing. It will trully like the 'future' is here.

And, tonight I had another ISS dream, where I was actualy on the ISS. Absolutely awesome, those dreams are pricless.

If you want to see an AWESOME 3D animation of Node 3's & Cupola’s interior, then watch this video by the ESA:

The real nice stuff starts at 1:13 - and I'm sorry, but I think those models might even challenge Donamy's work!

Set video resolution to 720p & fullscreen it for best effects!

Ah come on Pete, you gotta give those models the same limitations in Orbiter that mine have.

Hey Orbinaut Pete ,your right it does challenge Donamys model . Much like the Colts Challenged the Saints, but in the end they just did not pull it off.
The problem is not the model but restictions and limits Orbiter has.:tiphat:

Did they take care that the crew wouldn't get sunburns when entering Cupola?

the Cupola is faced earth side, so hardly any direct sun exposure, also you can't get sunburned behind a window ;) because (and i'm talking about normal glass but i think the same applies to the stuff used in the Cupola) a regular window tends to block UV radiation or only let it through in such small amounts that you can't even get a TAN from sunning behind a pane of glass

Click my addons, and who's Momo ?
