One of the sounds of my youth, knocked The Beatles off Number One. Didn't happen often.

Doubly sad, I worked for a UK broadcaster called Thames Television(long gone) and his band did the theme tune for
a long running children's programme called Magpie.
That was just ending when I started(1977). Remember the titles though!
