Hello, this is a cry from a groundling to all you giants up there.

I want to have trucked (in a manner of speaking) a space station into orbit, put people out to crew it, and done all the nitty-gritty piloting to make it happen. What I want is for this hypothetical station to have is UCGO cargo support so it can serve as my base camp for crewed missions to Mars or whatever else seems within my abilities.
The problem is I don't know if there is even any UCGO and UMMUstation modules, or if a groundling should be stepping forward so fast. And by too fast, I mean I believe I'm not good at getting to and from a space station. I can get out there, I just think I need work. The reason I want to build a space station is to make a real goal the point of getting into into space, to go out and leave some thing. Getting out there to expand it and change crews would be part of it, and help me gain the understanding by doing it. Any recomendations as to how I should go about this would be welcomed.

Maybe this is what you're looking for?

A simple search for UMMU UCGO station will get you far. ;)

I saw that before, but I couldn't tell from description if it was what I wanted. I guess I'll have to check and see. Still, would anyone tell me exactly how hard station building is? Would learning how to fly the Space Shuttle be needed or could I launch the modules on rockets? Would there be any big difference in using rockets that I should know?

Totally up to you. How do YOU want to build a station? Orbiter is open enough to allow for any combination of methods if that's how you want to do it.

First of all though you should learn the basics of flying in orbit, docking and so on. Then you should test out launchers to work out which is best or which combination is best.

Up to me eh?:beathead:

Even though the ISS was built by the Shuttle, I'd rather not learn to fly it yet. So I was thinking rockets would be used till I get the gumption to learn to fly the Shuttle. I have looked at the XR-5 and have it, but given that it has yet to reach orbit with myself at the controls.... I'm staying away from that.

I'd be happy if somebody gave tossed a few hints my way as what worked for them, because this is rocket science and I'm only a layman.

the XR-5 right in the beginning...?! brave soul :P try to get in orbit with the stock Delta Glider first ;)
