That's what SpaceX does with Dragon. So if there's a problem at launch, you don't have the disabled dragon in the same plane as the ISS.

I always followed [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3988"]this tutorial[/ame] back when I was flying the Shuttle Fleet to the ISS. It worked well for me.
