I came to think that it actually may be an interesting idea if someone could develop a space debris collector. It may be able to collect bolts or rocket stages.

If you watch the japanese series Planetes, you may find some inspiration.

Debris collection of small bits would likely use some sort of wide-ranging system, as detecting, rendezvousing with and collecting each part would be extremely difficult and/or wasteful.

I'd suggest a very large sheet of material that would capture or deflect debris. A "laser broom" was discussed to clear the orbit of the ISS, but this might potentially be difficult to construct and/or it could violate space weapon treaties.

If you were talking larger parts of debris (rocket stages, etc) that could be avoided by manuvering around them, but still pose a risk due to smaller debris "spalling" off of them, you could invdividually rendezvous and bundle them together for mass deorbit to a safe location.

katamari damacy...

A replacement UMMU HUD that mimics the HUD from the show would be grand

Heck, just make the suits from the show as a replacement mesh

DGIV, URMS and enjo's Orbital Scenery v. 0.1.

i was thinking hard about this the other day then i had a brain blast (my first ever :P)
why not try taking the DGIV into orbit with a URMS and Orbital Scenery v. 0.1installed, then try collect some of the small asteroids and put them in the DG's bay and return to earth,
ill give it a try to see if its possible.
if not just get any random module(your own or off a different ship etc) put it in a stable orbit and try the same?
if anyone does have the time to make the ship from the series and the MMU suits it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3338 for Orbital Scenery v. 0.1

EDIT: ok it can be done but because of the rotation of the asteroids they cannot be grappled by URMS, therefore i used UCD on the arm and grappled it that way, then when the asteroid ceased to rotate i grappeld it via the URMS and deleted the UCD.
then put the roid in my bay and returned to earth.
i will post a vid if i get a chance.
