Went back and they didn't say what caused the MCF... can't tell what they said at cutoff. ?

Webcast ending, after what the PAO just classified as a successful test...

Sounds like "TCC violation"... test commit criteria?

Yeah I don't know what to think... IMHO they put on themselves a lot of pressure making a public event from a very technical engineering test... Wait and see...

Sounds like they're going to ship the core stage to Kennedy anyway despite the premature cutoff of engines

That young PAO said that but obviously it will take days to even put together the data they got from the thousand of sensors and parameters on that rig... Seems way to early to take any decisions like that. I suspect she just said what she had planned to say.

Well I sure want to watch that debrief, I'll sleep another night :coffee:

Too early....cause if they did, then I'll have a good reason to be pretty nervous watching Artemis 1 finally fly

Btw that was the first time that I saw those RS-25 engines fire live. That was freakin awesome!

They wanted to do several gimbal tests on the engines, which actually were starting when the show ended, so I'd bet they will fire it again

Yep, heard too that they were going to proceed to gimbal tests right when the shutdown occured.

Yes the ground was shaking it was something... You could feel the raw power of those things...

Pressurization valves weren't modeled properly for the countdown.
Still no details on the cause of the cutoff.
Engine 4 had a FID and MCF. (FID is a "smaller" failure, like a sensor that is not used for redlines)
Flash seen at top of engine 4 at the time they started the gimbal, and the engine controller caused the shutdown... IMO not good news

They say they will give more details in the following days as they go into the data collected, which makes sense.

They do a press conference and don't know how long the engines fired. ??

Pretty much a pure-PR exercise... disappointing. ?
Only learned of the flash during gimbaling and that the controller killed the test (actually it kills the engine and the core sees that and kills the other 3).
The FID is a standard error-reporting from the engine controller with info on what failed, while MCF is just a bit set in the data. They could at least say what FID was... but they don't even tell the length of the firing... ?

If the flash + shutdown and the MCF are related I don't know... not sure if they added TVC into the engine controller (they were independent in the Shuttle).

More details about the pre-pressurization issues, the LH2 tank was losing pressure too fast so the He pulses to pressurize the tank were lengthened.
