Hi there, I am enjoying flying the shuttle using David413's shuttle fleet..and am able to dock to the ISS..however, once docked, I want to use the RMS to detach the payload and attach it to the ISS..can anyone help?..other than that, does it just mean that with all the missions that come with the scenarios, you dock with the ISS, and then undock and return to earth?..as I cannot find any documentation that comes with the scenarios and what you have to do..any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks..

Have you rolled out the RMS and attempted to grapple to MPLM? I don't have Orbiter in front of me but I recall that there is a checkbox on the RMS panel that gives you Red + blue arrows for the active snare of the RMS and the grapple point of the MPLM. Have those two meet and you'll be able to move the payload.

Hi GaryW, thanks for your reply...yes, I've managed to arm the RMS, open the controls and I have been able to grapple the MPLM using the grapple points..I have moved the RMS with the payload attached, but was wondering where do I attach it on the ISS?..and how do I release it without it floating off into space?..

You need to rotate the MPLM so that it's docking port comes into contact with a docking port on the ISS. Once you release the RMS and as long as the MPLM is close enough it'll 'snap' to the docking port.

One problem that does sometimes happen is that the MPLM will still have the 'ATTACHED 0:1,SHUTTLE' line in the scenario. When you release the RMS it snaps right back to the payload back. What I double check is that the scenario removes the 'attached' line to ensure that when I release the MPLM (or other dockable item) it snaps to the right location.

Hi GaryW, as you can see from the scenario below, there are several "ATTACHED"..so are you saying that I need to delete the line which relates to the rafaello?..I'm trying to attach it to a port on the ISS..but not sure which port to attach it too..(obviously one that is within reach of the RMS, of course)...do you know of any shuttle scenarios which include documentation?

Code:

I just had this problem but it's less Where do I put the MPLM but how do i bend the Orbiter's arm to the right position. I was even looking for pictures online and all I see is the stations arm being used to move the MPLM, not the SRMS.

Since the SRMS shoulder is below the ISS it can't pull the MPLM in close to the station without hitting the station with it's elbow.

Any advice?

If you are using the current config of the ISS, the MPLM was taken out of the Shuttle's Payload Bay and connected to Harmony by the stations arm, with the Shuttle's RMS arm grappling the OBSS (Which was passed over from its starboard home to the RMS by the SSRMS) and positioned in such a way to give another camera view of the Harmony Nadir docking port.

It is a odd fit, and you need to swivel the joint that connects the SSRMS to the Destiny lab so that you can pull back the lower portion of the arm and get the MPLM close to the docking port. It is not easy, but with some practice you will figure it out and then when you try to do it again on subsequent flights to the ISS, it will be a piece of cake.
