Excuse me for the necro... But I find this discussion thread absolutely brilliant for beginners interested in Earth suborbital flight.
I would add that there's a typo in dgatsoulis's TOF document.
I presume that we shouldn't multiply the ascent distance by 2 in the case of a retrograde trajectory?
To determine whether the equation's form is incorrect in this example, or if it's the calculation on the right-hand side that's wrong.
