Microsoft open-sources .NET: http://www.wired.com/2014/11/microsoft-open-sources-net-says-will-run-linux-mac/

Satya Nadella’s rapid reinvention of Microsoft continues.

In yet another bid to make up lost ground in the long march to the future of computing, Microsoft is now open sourcing the very foundation of .NET—the software that millions of developers use to build and operate websites and other large online applications—and it says this free code will eventually run not only on computer servers that use its own Windows operating system, but also atop machines equipped with Linux or Apple’s Mac OS, Microsoft’s two main operating system rivals.

Hm, isn't it also correct to to say rounds in the magazine, not bullets?

Yes. A "round" is a round of ammunition which means a cartridge loaded with powder, fitted with a primer and a bullet.

A "clip" is different from a magazine, which is a spring-loaded ammunition container that feeds rounds into a firearms. An "en-bloc clip" is simply a strip of plastic or metal or a cage in which rounds are loaded, but there is no mechanism in it to help feeding, which is done by other mechanisms in the weapon. Furthermore, a "half-moon" or "full-moon" clip is a device meant to help in fast reloading of revolvers, or to hold rimless cartridges into place in a revolver (which is meant for rimmed cartridges) when it is chambered for that round.

Everytime someone calls a magazine a "clip", the ghost of Jeff Cooper shoots a puppy's owner with rock salt straight in the backside.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Interesting. I wondered what was up. I noticed in my MSDN newsletter today they released a differently-branded free version of Visual Studio as well. Looking it up, it seems it's fully-featured, and free to use in commercial or non-commercial settings for teams of up to 5 people, and not for use in an enterprise setting.

I think this is the one time one could safely say they blame Call of Duty, and no one would accuse them of writing for the Daily Mail.

and the New Horizons program money could have been used better to fund a Jupiter Trojan, Io mission, Venus orbiter/lander, etc. instead.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let me stop you right there.
First, we don't have such a great launch window to Pluto for some years so it seems logical to use it.
Second, it's Pluto, goddammit! This is Io:

This is Venus:

This is Pluto:

We've already had missions to Venus. We've already had missions which looked at Io, too. But Pluto? There was never a spacecraft even close to an object in the Kuiper Belt. Pluto is real exploration, going somewhere we've never gone before. Pluto is like the Vikings around a thousand years ago, going somewhere new, finding interesting things. A mission to Venus would be like a mission to the south pole in the 50s. Sure it's easier now, our science has become better and we might even stay there for some time. But ultimately it's already done before.

Like the most famous clip that has probably ever existed:

Whoops, I meant New Frontiers funding. I was referring to OSIRIS-REx. The post was about future missions, not current ones. Fixed.

You could have saw it was a typo if it was read in context...

Ah...but does it run Orbiter? ;)

Ahh, not really, although once I get my Lubuntu VM set up in it I might be able to via wine.

And then I could run Artlavs linux on a delta-glider, soooo meta

Interesting: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Verdun_Newton"]This article[/ame] was on the front page of Wikipedia today.

The guy died about two miles from a location of great (if obscure) significance to my family.

Several strange things are happening in Orbiter Forum.
Conspiracies, unintelligible scriptures, open source software of large corporations.

MS presents a great movie... that no one was waiting.
