It wasn't that.(I still can't understand how a power failure can cause the train to simply derail and pile up in the tunnel)
There were construction works on this segment, and one still-unpowered track switch was not secured properly.
It moved itself to the diverging track, and a train going full speed was suddenly diverted sideways, flying off the track.
Alternative version is that a pair of wheels fell off one of the cars, jamming it to the same effect. :blink:
In any case, it looks like some sort of gross maintenance error. :facepalm:
Yet, as safety goes i can't remember any other lethal incident in the metro itself (not counting bombs). Only thing close is the escalator failure of 1982.
The system handles about 5 million passengers daily, and is considered to be very reliable.
