Well, if there are KW/h, why can't there be GW/y?
Scale is about right too - a consumption of a small town.
I didn't get the joke.

I thought it was KWh that is used, to measure the energy used by, for example, a home, or whatever (Power*time=energy or work).

What is KW/h used for?

A kilowatt hour is kW * h, not kW/h.

But GW/y is still a sensible unit of measurement. For example, you can use it to talk about how fast a nation (or the world) is building up its generating capacity.

Ah. That's a good point actually. A few GW a year is probably the same as a new power station or two - so actually they might have been talking sense. Oooops. :shifty:

A watt is 1 joule per second, so watts per year would result in joules per second squared if converted properly, which can indeed be used to measure a change in energy, analogous to acceleration. But I think most people use it in an utterly wrong context, what they want to say is either Wh per year, or an average anual ouput, which would be better put as, well, average output over a year instead of Watts per year. You don't use m/s^2 to state an average velocity either...

Yes, but it wouldn't be a useful representation to the general public, as it's less than obvious what it means ([math]\frac{J}{s^{2}}[/math].)

Edit: Oh, :ninja:'d by Jedidia. :P

That reminds me I just saw a commercial for it....

Next time on Ancient Aliens!:
Giorgio Tsoukalos explains how the Aztecs, a culture that never used the wheel, actually had a Large Hadron Collider!

(this is for real:lol:)

They had a circle! The LHC is a circle! They must be the same!

A particle accelerator...definitely the most useful and worthwhile tool for any ancient civilisation. :P

The musical scale is based upon the 12th root of 2.

Another fun library book read off.

It's a circle.
The arrows are showing how to access the content.
The man licks the center.

This has nothing to do with aliens and I just proved it.
